I have a Tanita, I have to weigh myself sometimes 10x before I get consistent weights. I just put new batteries in it.

What brand and model do you have? And does it give you accurate digital readings? Links to your scale are helpful.

I am looking for a digital bathroom scale that is consistent every time you weigh yourself.

This is the scale I have and I love it. It gives me very consistent readings, and while I cannot comment on the accuracy of the body fat percentage, the weight seems to be very consistent with doctor and gym scales. Hope this helps!

Mine is the brand "Thinner". It does seem consistent. I'm in the habit of weighing twice in a row to be sure the reading is consistent. It comes out the same *almost* every time. Once in a blue, it changes by 0.2. It also measures body fat % and hydration level, but I don't use those features as they seem to be way off compared to caliper body fat measurements.

There is a VIDEO REVIEW on amazon, the guy steps on this scale 2x or more - same result.

Was all set to buy the EatSmart scale then I read this:

"2.0 out of 5 stars Weight adjusts based on history -- not current value!, August 18, 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale w/ Extra Large Backlit 3.5" Display and "Step-On" Technology (Health and Beauty)
A number of reviewers warned that this scale "adjusts" its weight to be the same as it was before, even if the true weight has shifted slightly. This makes it -look- more reliable, but it does so at the expense of accuracy. I have confirmed this to be true with experiments at home. I've had my weight change by over half a pound and the scale won't show it.

In order to get a "true" reading, I lean on it with only one foot and wait for it to stabilize at that low number. That clears out the old weight. Then I get on with both feet. However I feel it's a little ridiculous to have to go through this.

If the manufacturer wants to make themselves look better by "remembering" the old weight, fine, but disclose it in the manual! It is dishonest to hide what they are doing.

Other than that, it is an attractive looking scale and feels solid. "

this same reviewer said on another post that it won't move unless you have .6 lbs of weight...sheesh. When I lose weight, I lose .4 a day.....

I bought a cheap glass scale at Walgreen's for $10 and it has worked great for me. I've had it about 4 or 5 months now. I keep my old analog scale in the closet and drag it out if I have any doubts about the battery or readings, but it's been right on the money thus far! Happy with the purchase, and the price.

I use this scale too. Have had it for years and it's really accurate. Right on with my doctor's fancy shmancy one...LOL.
  • I have a digital scale, just a cheap one from Target awhile back. I know when it starts acting erratic I need to change the battery, or check that no one's fiddled with the little button on the bottom that tells it what "zero" feels like.

I also know that it sometimes decides I weigh X, and if my weight doesn't change by a couple of pounds, it doesn't recognize the change. I grab the cat or a heavy book, hop on & get a weight, then hop off & try just me to make sure I'm getting my true weight. I know others who have that problem, too, so I think it's common for cheaper electric scales.

In general, my scale runs a little lower than my docs, I'm alright with that since it's consistent day to day and I'm mostly concerned with change over time.

I have the Eat Smart Precision Digital Bathroom scale and it is very accurate and consistent. http://www.amazon.com/EatSmart-Precision-Digital-Bathroom-Technology/dp/B001KXZ808/ref=pd_bxgy_k_text_b

ETA: I just saw your post about the negative review on this scale and saying it 'remembers' weights. I have not found this to be the case at all, nor have I found it to only move in .6 pound increments.

One thing that I did see in the reviews prior to purchasing the scale is that if you have ANY complaint with this scale, the company sends you a new one, pronto. Hard to argue with Customer Service like that!

I also have their kitchen scale and am also quite happy with that. http://www.amazon.com/EatSmart-Precision-Digital-Kitchen-Silver/dp/B001N07KUE/ref=pd_sim_hpc_2

I have the exact same scale, and the scale has been very accurate for me. Have not had any problems with it what so ever, and like you mentioned, the price surely is what attracted me to purchase it.

Can you see if it moves in .2 or .4 by weighing something with it with yourself on it? My Tanita scale does even though it has inconsistent weights constantly.

It does. I haven't had any problems with this scale at all.

One thing I have noticed on amazon reviews is that the reviews of the original version of the scale, which apparently had to be 'tapped' to be calibrated before you got on it, are lumped in with the current version of the scale which you simply step on. I wonder if the problems that person had were with the previous version of the scale?

This review is from: EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale w/ Extra Large Backlit 3.5" Display and "Step-On" Technology (Health and Beauty)
Design: The design of this scale is every nice. It looks great in my bathroom and it is just the right size if you are around average. The red sticker that has been mentioned in other posts has been replaced with a nice easy to remove sticker.

Accuracy: The scale seems to be accurate within about a pound. I think that this is decent for the price of this scale. This scale does appear to use a built in memory and if the weights are close it defaults to the previous weight. For example if i weigh just myself it would pop up 170.2lbs. If i weigh myself holding a one pound weight it will still popup as 170.2lbs. If i hold a two pound weight it will then popup 172.4. Personally i think the memory is the biggest downfall if the product. I am not expecting perfection and a variation of .2-.4 pounds per weighing is acceptable but to use a built in memory just to give the appearance of being more accurate than it really is is what i consider to be cheating.

Conclusion: This scale looks great. If you aren't looking for perfection and are okay with the scale utilizing a built in memory to give the illusion of being more accurate i would recommend this product. I am going to keep this scale for now and see how it works out for me the next couple of days.

So the problem with EatSmart is that it has a built-in memory, yes, even in the new scale, which is why it's giving "consistent" readings.

I have a Tanita BF-625 that I got ~9 years ago for ~$80. It also does body fat measurements. Its always been very consistent and accurate (at one point I actually checked it against the super accurate scale at my doctor's office, and also with dumbbells of known weight), and the resolution is .2 lb. The one I have is at this link: http://www.amazon.com/TANITA-BF-625-Memory-Analyzer-Scale/dp/B00006WNS3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1302814923&sr=8-1

But that model is pretty old, and Tanita has since replaced that scale with a newer model which also has a .2 lb resolution, the BF-683: http://www.tanita.com/en/bf683w-scale/

Amazon.com reviews on it are at this link: http://www.amazon.com/Tanita-BF-683W-Water-Feature-White/dp/B000FFAKDW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1302815201&sr=1-1

Anyway, my current scale is still working perfectly even after 9 years, but if it did break down I'd definitely replace it with the Tanita BF-683.

Which model Tanita scale do you have and how long ago did you buy it?

I think these people got bad scales and should have contacted the company for a replacement, because I don't have any of these problems. I purchased mine in February of this year.

@Atlantique - I phoned them, they do have a memory in them per what EatSmart said "it remembers till .6 of a pound" - from EatSmart themselves. They also said that "all digital scales do this Taylor, Tanita, etc".

He also said "if you want one that is more accurate it's best to buy a physicians scale."

Soooo....now we know, this scale has a memory, the reviewer did mention it above......and I'm sitting here thinking, well maybe I need to stick with my wildly all over the place Tanita scale because it doesn't seem to have a memory on it, hence the crazy weights.

Good to know. I guess I've been losing steadily enough at this point that I haven't seen a problem with it failing to change!

Hope you find a scale that you can live with.
