Dairy allergy sour cream options?

I know that sounds like an oxy moron.....but I know there are dairy free options to popular dairy products (milk, yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream, etc). I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for brands. I used Toufutti before I just didn't know if there was another brand that someone like better? The sour cream will be in a casserole but taste is still important. I have found Cabot cheese which is lactose free and that will be perfect for the cheese in the dish! I find that soy cheese just doesn't melt well.

Thanks for any suggestions anyone has!

Hmmm when quickly googling dairy free sour cream it states that due to the nature of sour cream the lactose enzyme is no longer present or has been broken down or something like that....does anyone know if this is the case? I know creams (like whipping cream and cream cheese) make my husband sick due to his allergy to dairy.

I don't know a good alternative but if your husband has an allergy to dairy, then the lactose enzyme in the sour cream is probably not what makes him sick, it's more likely the milk protein.

We have lactose free milk and Breyer's 99.9% lactose free ice cream and he's fine with both of those. The milk has the lactose already broken down or something scientific.
