I have had a Polar ??11 heart rate monitor for the last couple of years, but purchased a Timex model recently. I noticed that the polar showed about 360 calories burned for my hour long class I go to, but the Timex shows about 570 calories for the same class. Anyone have any imput on why they would be so different, or what to go with?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Do they both use a chest strap? Generally whichever one has the chest strap is more accurate because it will constantly keep track of your HR, whereas manually having to check your bpm periodically may have mixed calorie burn results.0

I have a timex and find it can be finicky - at times, when my heart rate is close to max - it will shoot up to 240 and stay there for a minute or so. So I typically cut back a bit on my cals burned.
I am going to try the "reset" button int he chest strap (again) and see if that helps. mine has been pretty good, but happens every once in awhile. which is annyoing.
perhaps go with the polar - or pick the average between the two?
but my next HRM will be a polar or garmin.0 -
Both have chest straps.0

Oh ok. I only have a Polar FT7, so I don't experience with a Timex, but if drog's post is anything to go by, I'd go with the Polar, or the average between the two, if anything.0

yep - my bros-in-law had two timex. The first was great. his second was doing the same as mine - every so often.
he bought a polar with chest strap and loves it.0 -

Curious about why you chose the FT7 rather than the FT4.0 -
I have a timex and I over about 2 months of using it and recording everything, I have noticed the timex is over estimating compared to a few different online calorie estimators. I would probably think the Polar would be more accurate... I guess you get what you pay for.0

I have a timex and it was an expensive one; I love it because it tracks my distance and pace really well when I run, but I find it overestimates my calories! (I think Timex HRM have a reputation for this! ) I usually knock about a third off!0

Crap. I just got one today too. =[ A Tmex that is. It was 80 bucks tho! Jeez!
Should I take the average of MFP and my HRM??0 -
I am going to return the Timex and buy a new chest strap for my polar. I don't want to change what was already working for me!
Thanks everyone!0 -
I have the polar ft60 and love it. Comes with chest strap and gps tracker0
