Hope this isn't a too recent post to rehash, but figured this could be some motivation for me and others. For those who have been losing the weight, how did you do it? What's your routine, favorite snacks, food choices that you're proud of?
Good job to everyone who has worked soo hard! I'm getting there, and I'm trying to make the good choices. I'd love to hear what your "end" results have been :-)

i discuss a lot of this in my success story included in my signature. Otherwise, I enjoy eating lots of oatmeal, veggies, cottage cheese, and blue diamond almonds!

Its taken me a while but the results are totally worth waiting (and sticking to it) for!

    Good luck!

Small steps, small changes, slow steady progress.
  • A few rules of thumb that I go by which so fare has helped me:

    1. Always eat breakfast (I usually have oatmeal)

    2. Always drink minimum 64 oz (8 cups) of water a day or more.

    3. Exercise 4 to 5 days a week, I try for 40 minutes but sometimes I only have time for 20. I don't go 2 consecutive days without exercise.

    4. I stay within my calorie intake (and yes I do eat back my exercise calories) BUT... I do usually allow myself 1 day of the week to go over (usually Saturdays)
  • I get off of the job at 530 so my last meal is at 4-430 and
    I eat apples everyday
    Exercise-1hr
    Strawberries
    Spinach
Watch the sodium/Sugar/gluten/MSG/High fructose corn syrup/Saturated fat
    No sodas
    Water Only....

I guess these are the major contributors to my weightloss

I avoided all processed foods............it was hell, but I did it for one year...Ate fruits, vegetables, pinto beans with celantro, and chicken breasts for one year.....no red meat, practically NO sugar, no booze or drugs, no salts.......

it was hell and hard, then I encorporated exercise and started from 10 mins to 3 hours , all in one year

I think , for me, knowing that obesity kills had a huge major impact on me. My neighbor who was about 100 lbs overweight, who also lives directly behind me, died of a heart attack, leaving a wife and 2 daughters in high school also convinced me, esp when I d see them after. He was just 55 and looked just like Ted Kennedy, the senator from Massachusetts.......the nicest fellow youd ever want to meet. I still miss him to this day...........

Nothing can scare you more than losing some one because of obesity............Kinda brutal response for you, but you asked how I did it, and I was being honest .I got scared and made a resolution to myself and God, that I was going to lose weight or die . I had no options. I was 350 lbs and beginning to get really scared of dying...Im now at 214 , with about 10 lbs more to lose, 10 to 15, so you can see, its paid off. I now believe finally, that I wont die of obesity..

.........Hope you do well, best wishes on your journey...........Lloyd

Walk every single day (I built up to walking 3-4 miles per day).

Cut out Dairy (Cheese, Milk, etc)
Also cut out as much pasta and bread as you can.
Stop drinking Soda and Sweetened Coffee Drinks.
No more fried food or anything that qualifies as "Junk" food.
    Reduce Sodium intake

    Drink extra water/Unsweetened Teas.
Increase Protein and Good Carbs (Green Veggies)

This is EXACTLY what I did to drop fifteen pounds a month (for four months straight).

    Good luck!

I walk everyday to work and school. Most days i also walk for about an hour and so far im up to 3 miles a day during that hour and if i walk longer about 5 or 6 miles twice a week. twice a week I go up to the stadium at the school when walking and run up the hills. Next week i am going to start doing the walking up and down the stairs. Once i train my heart and body I am going to pick up the pace, My goal is to be able to jog a mile in 12 minutes again. About twice to three times a week i also do about 15 minutes of strength training just arms and abs since my legs get a work out everyday.

Food is my weakness! Being on MFP has helped alot with my over eating. I have not ate out in almost 2 weeks! I make lunch the night before on days I cannot come home for lunch. Just a sandwhich (wheat bread) and fruit or veggies for a snack. Other snacks I eat are yogurt and string cheese. Breakfast is easy I wake up at about 6am everymorning and make an egg sandwhich or eat cereal. Dinner I eat salad almost everynight. keeping different salad dressings and toppings helps alot. If I do eat out I olny eat about half of what I order unless I know the calorie count is on track for what I need for the day.

Alot of info but logging everyday is really motivating. One last thing WATER i drink at least 5 to 8 glasses a day. Stay away from diet sodas they are more harmful than good. If you need carbinated drinks, drink clear ones.

Well hope it helps keep up the good work kat!
