Weighing Produce

When weighing fruits and vegetables, do you weigh just the edible part, or do you weigh the whole fruit, including a core, pit, etc.? I've looked around for the answer, but I'm not sure if the calorie information given is for an entire fruit or just the part you're going to eat.
Also, on a side note, who decided what a "medium" apple is, anyway? I deliberately picked out some of the smaller Golden Delicious at the store this week, but my new kitchen scale tells me that they are about 180 - 190g each... all more than the supposedly medium 150g apple usually mentioned in databases. What's up with that? They don't seem that big to me, especially compared to the other ones at the store.

I don't know if it's right or wrong, but I only weigh what I eat. I will weigh my fruit before as it is, and then after peeling it and removing the core, or pit, I will weigh it again. There is a huge difference sometimes, so I only log what I actually consume.0

Well it all depends. As far as fruit is concerned I weigh the peeled banana, orange etc. but the entire apple, since I have been eating apples with core and all since my mom told me so at age 6. (49 now and still listening:)). Some apples are indeed quite small like the Empire variety, whereas golden delicious, gala tend to be the larger kind, even Spartans.
Somebody mentioned here the other day that the calorie information given, even on the store labels have a certain percentage allowable error build in (might be 10 or more %, either high or low) so probably will not matter much. Sometimes you can also find that kind of info on the web (caloriecounter and similar sites) that will tell you all kinds of variations, like "apple, sliced, peeled" etc.0 -
Could help since it takes into account "waste" or "non-edible parts"...

That's why I wish all the entries had to be done in ounces. There's no room for misinterpretation if you eat 5 ounces of apple, rather than trying to figure out if it's small, medium, large, peeled, seeds included, etc.0
