Newbie to myfitnesspal...

...but definitely not a newbie when it comes to workouts! I have always had a hard time tracking my diet. I have tried others on the iPhone apps arena but none were quite as good as myfitnesspal!! I was recently injured and stopped working out for about 5 months. The doctors told me to stop working out so my diet ended up going out the window too. Two weeks ago, I got the green light to start my workout again and that was when I discovered myfitnesspal. Totally love it.
I do have some questions though: I am new to counting calories but at the bottom of the Foods tab, it lists your TOTALS, DAILY GOAL, and REMAINING. Some days, my numbers are all red. Others they are all green. But sometimes, one would be really high and one would be low....for example, carbs will read 300 (green) and then fat will read 18 (red).
How are these numbers calculated and is my goal to get as low green numbers as possible? Or can I actually still have high green numbers and that's okay?

you're supposed to try to reach as close as u can to those numbers, but its okay if u go over a little or if ure under a bit. When you work out, those numbers increase as its giving u back ur calories that you burned i think its put in as.0

I am so glad you asked that. I'm wondering the same thing. My protein is always high and I don't know if that's good or bad!0

carbs, fats and protein are calculated as an ideal percentage of the total calories you take in

I understand the ideal percentage part of it. In a perfect world, those percentages would fall just at the right place. But since every food and every item we eat are different, that percentage and balance is usually tipped to one side more than the other. I guess what I want to know is, at the end of the day, if the numbers are still high in the green area, are we supposed to bring it down closer towards '0'? Because truly, that is where the ideal percentage is.0
