Okay, so here's the deal .. there's not many fruits or veggies that I like. Period. Veggie wise I like carrots(raw), celery(raw), peas(cooked), corn(cooked), and potatoes. Fruit wise is even worse. I like apples and that's about it.
How do I get in my servings of fruits and veggies a day if I can't stand eating them?

Oh, I forgot to mention, I like lettuce in salads. But I seem to always have to drench my salads in a tonnnn of dressing.0

There is this juice called V8 Fusion that is supposed to help you out if you dont like fruits and vegetables. The kids I nanny for have it and they also have the V8 Fusion Lite. I was looking at it the other day and it has a ton of nutrients but alot of sugar. It wont hurt you to try it out.0

I used to be pretty picky about fruits and veggies too..but I slowly introduced them into my diet and I've grown to love them. I suggest just adding a tiny bit here and there to start..add a little fresh spinach to your salad...add a little fruit to your oatmeal or cereal. Eventually your taste buds will start to like it And "tons of dressing" is a No No lol0

Have you tried different spices and/or ways to cook your veggies? What about seasonal fruits (strawberries, any berries, melon)? Different kinds of lettuce or spinach salads, maybe? And maybe try one of those spritzer balsalmic salad dressings? Just some suggestions....I'm stumped by the limitation.
One way I get my veggies into my toddler is to "hide" it in different foods. Sometimes if you pair a veggie with something strong tasting, you can "kind of" mask it.0 -
I used to dislike most veggies. And then I realized I hadn't tried very many!! I lived with a vegetarian and explored new meals. As I expanded my veggie experience I liked more and more of what I thought I wouldn't! Same with fruits! Maybe just keep on trucking along. I know V8 is an alternative to help you with you fruit/veggie intake... which will help increase your servings. But they aren't a substitue for the real thing either. Remember too that peas, corn and potatoes are actually starches.0

Do you like to cook? If so, try adding spinach and cooked greens (kale, collards) to your dishes. I add finely chopped cooked greens to homemade soups, pasta, or pizza. You can even puree the greens into marinara sauce if you have a food processor. Do you have a manual food chopper? It's great for finely chopping veggies like peppers. You can add raw or steamed peppers to the above mentioned dishes too. Just try a little at a time.0

research has found that the more you taste food, the more you will grow to like it. i think about 20 'tastes' is an average to get used to them. i used to be very fussy with veg but now have no problem at all with tomatoes, mushrooms, courgettes, aubergines, sprouts cabbage....you name it!
granted there WILL be things you just cannot stomach (it's beetroot for me!) but i found that i just had to get over myself and grow up if i wanted to enjoy a variety of healthy choices.
you already like celery which is a bitter and more acquired flavour so i think its very likely that you could grow to like most veg.
best of luck :flowerforyou:0 -
For your salads try the Wishbone Salad Spritzers! Low cal and sooooo good.0

What exactly is a typical day for you in terms of diet... fried?, loads of protein?0

You could also try blending fruits and veggie into a smoothie. There's recipes where you can add veggie in and you don't taste them!0

Sometimes they can be an acquired taste, but you could start by sneaking them in with other meals to develop a taste for them. For example, next time you have a burger, load it with lettuce and tomato. Next time you make pasta, mix in some steamed broccoli and cauliflower (I love mine with a bit of lime juice and a pinch of salt). Instead of making plain rice, mix in carrots and peas (or whatever other veggies). Put them in your favorite soup. If you like dressing, steer clear of high fat/sugar dressings and instead pick something else with a strong flavor, like oil and balsamic vinegar, or sprinkle some low fat cheese on your salad. You can also toss some chopped apples into your salad to give it more flavor.
Eventually, you'll start to need less of the extra flavors and more of the veggies.
For fruits, try them in smoothies with some yogurt or low fat milk. Or put them in your cereal or oatmeal.
I think you just need to find creative ways to season them and you'll get the hang of it!0 -

Well, for breakfast, I usually have high fiber oatmeal, fiber plus cereal, whole wheat bagel with ff cream cheese, or egg, sausage and cheese on 1/2 of an english muffin.
Lunch usually consists of a salad with reduced fat cheese, ranch salad spritzer, with turkey, ham or chicken on top. Other things I've had for lunch are turkey and cheese on a sandwich slim, chicken fried rice, peanut butter sandwich, etc.
Dinner is normally whatever I make my husband, just a healthy verision. Like the other night, he wanted spaghetti, so I made myself some with whole grain pasta, and just had a serving size.
Snacks are usually nuts, yogurt, cottage cheese, skinny cow cheese and crackers, or an apple with peanut butter.0 -

Try dipping the tines of your fork in a side serving of dressing before going for the salad. That way you can be sure that the flavor and aroma of the dressing is in each and every bite of the salad without having to drench the entire thing.0 -
I used to dress my salads so much with dressing that it looked like a dressing salad with some lettuce. Very Bad! lol
I slowly added spinach & baby lettuce blends, eventually took iceberg lettuce out all together.
What I do now is get all my salad greens & veggies in a big bowl (enough for my boyfriend & me) and add abt 1 1/2 tablespoons each of Fat Free Italian and Fat Free Ranch. Then add a dry Italian Herb Spice to it. Maybe abt 2 teaspoons or more. Then toss it all together til all the leaves are coated. Even a dash of parmesan cheese adds extra flavor. The salad will have flavor & not be dry even though u didn't use that much dressing. The thing is to toss is well so the spices have a chance to mix well. Since you like apples, add some to ur salad. Its so yummy. I didn't like veggies that much either but like they've said in ur post already, the more you eat them the more you will like them. I hated brocolli, now I love it! I still need to work on squash.....blah. Maybe u can try vitamins if ur concerned abt lost nutients. Otherwise if your just worried abt getting more veggies & fruits in your diet, then ur gonna have to be brave and just start tryin new stuff. Be Brave!
Best of Luck!0 -

Yes, this is great advice! I recently went out to a restaurant and ordered a sald with dressing on the side and my friend taught me that technique or putting the fork into the dressing before going for the salad. Now I've started doing that whenever I order salad out. At home, I know what I'm putting in my salad, so I don't bother as much, but restaurant dressing tends to be super unhealthy so this is the best solution.0
