Good Morning my fitnesspal,
So I need some help with lunch, I always eat ham/cheese sandwich (wheat) with bake chips. Now I'm getting tired of same o lunch and need to try something else. My problem is I don't know what else I can eat that is easy/fast and low on calories and that taste good, so I'm asking for your help for any suggestion for a new menu on lunch.

I'm having a greek salad with fat free dressing.

If you have a trader joes near you, they have a ton of low-calories fresh salad options.

Jimmy Johns Unwhich! They wrap the leaves super tight around the meat so you can eat it like a sub! Get some Thinny chips too! Blows subway out of the water.

I really enjoy bringing a salad with me to lunch. I chop up cucumbers to put in in. I also hard boil eggs and slice it up to add to my salad. I bring baby carrots as a snack. I add bacon bits and ranch dressing. It sounds like a lot but it is low in calories.

I'm at work so I'm going to buy something from outside. I am in the mood for a soup. I would love a white bean chili soup, mmm.

You could make a soup (or a few for variety) at home, freeze them and you'll have several premade lunches already made. A good site for recipes is allrecipes.com

Ha! I was just thinking the same thing!!!! I think I'm going to go to Starbucks for either a hummus snack and salad or a turkey & swiss on wheat. Go to their website to see nutritional info. And my closest Starbucks is in Barnes & Noble so I can get the latest fitness magazines!

I usually have a whole wheat mini bagel with a laughing cow light cheese wedge and some lean turkey or ham, and tomatoe. Carrot sticks on the side. Still tasty, filling and under 250 calories.
  • I usually have 3 raw slices of green pepper to pair with 1 wedge of Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese spread. Organic Greek Yogurt 0% fat (good for protein) sprinkled with Fiber One Original Cereal (only 60 calories for dry 1/2 cup and 0 sugar) and also put some blueberries ontop of it. I also have steamed broccoli and some cherub tomatoes. A hardboiled egg white only (throw out the yolk - unnecessary cholesterol) or I will grill some organic firm tofu with cumin, curry & pepper (one serving). Then for dessert half a small apple with one tbs of Better n' Peanut Butter Low Sodium to dip them in.

Low calorie, low sodium, low cholesterol, low fat and only healthy/natural sugars. Plus really yummy and filling.

Today I had a tuna pita. Usually I just eat leftovers from the night before.

Sometimes I'll make a big pot of something. Chilli, hearty soup etc. I put it in serving size containers and freeze it. Then I grab one in the morning and put it in my lunch bag. Serves as a cooler too. :)

I keep a lo-fat salad dressing in the fridge at work, and then just bring in salad ingredients. I chop them up immediately before I eat them as that keeps them crunchier.

Endless permutations from lettuce-type things, plus other salad veg ( tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, olives) with some protein (boiled egg, chicken, tuna, blue cheese, mozzarella, ham) and occasionally something fancier (artichokes, walnuts, leftover jar of ante-pasta roast veg....)

My favorite lunch is baked chicken with a little barbecue sauce, a toasted pita, and a big bowl of tomatoes and cucumbers.

Some of my favorite lunches are:

    - Tuna salad on a sandwich thin (I use the teeny can of white light tuna, squirt of mustard, relish and cracked pepper)
    - You can pair the sandwich with an apple, bunch of grapes, navel orange etc. Then I usually have some light and fit yogurt as "dessert" (only 80 cal)

Another favorite lunch is 1 cup of fiber 1 original cereal (120 cal) with a container of light and fit yogurt.... and a banana or other fruit. Super filling and low in calories

My current routine is at the weekend to cook some chicken or prawns and then each night as I make dinner, I chop up some extra veg then in the morning add some avocado and pumpkin seeds and presto - super healthy salad with a decent veg/protein/healthy fat combination..... Drizzle on a bit of flax oil or a dollop of organic mayo.
  • I usually pack leftovers from dinner the night before so today I am having roasted veggies (zucchini, onions, sweet peppers) with a slice of smoked gouda on a ciabatta bread =)

I'm another left-overs-for-lunch gal. While I am making dinner, I'll cut up a serving of fruit and put it in a container. I make a lot of extra salad, toss it before the dressing is on it and put a bunch in a container for lunch. If there are then left over cooked veggies, they go in with the salad; corn, peas, green beans, dollop of hummus. Add a bit of tuna or leftover meat and I have my protein. I also keep low fat dressing at work. I also bring extra fruit and a few almonds for a snack before leaving work- that way I am not starving when I get home; the protein and fat from the nuts keeps my blood sugar up and feeling satisfied for longer. I found out from a dietitian that just eating fruit at the end of the day was sabotaging me because my blood sugar would drop 1-2 hours after eating the fruit and then I'd over eat at dinner.
  • Spread hummus over iceberg lettuce leaves, and roll them. Hardboiled egg. A tomato and a can of tuna in water with 1 tb of balsamic vinegar of modena.

Here's some info on Fast Food if you are in a hurry:

    Taco Bell
Tacos - The Fresco Style Chicken Ranchero Taco and the Regular Style Chicken Ranchero Taco have just 170 calories and four grams of fat, if you order correctly. The key is to request only chicken, fiesta salsa, lettuce and tortilla.

    Subway
Sandwiches - In general, stick to the 6 grams or less menu and you'll get a sandwich with 330 calories or less. The exception is the Chicken Teriyaki at 380 calories, 100 more than the Veggie Delight. The bigger secret is choosing the right condiments. Best options are: vegetables, vinegar (1 calorie), the mustard (8 calories/no fat), honey mustard select sauce (28 calories). Say no to the cheese and do not ask for oil.

    Wendy's
Salads - The Mandarin Chicken Salad and the Spring Mix Salad have 170 and 180 calories, respectively. As far as dressings, the Fat Free French has the fewest calories (80). The Reduced Fat Creamy Ranch has 100 calories, but 8 grams of fat. Low Fat Honey Mustard is the only other viable option at 110 calories and 3 grams of fat.

Hamburgers - A plain Junior patty (2 oz) without a bun has 100 calories and 7 grams of fat. With bun, ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions, the sandwich is 280 calories and 9 grams of fat. The Classic Single patty (4 oz) has 210 calories and 14 grams of fat. The plain bun has 160 calories, 2 grams of fat.

Sandwiches - The Ultimate Grilled Chicken Sandwich has 360 calories and 7 grams of fat. But 40 calories and 2.5 grams of fat can be eliminated by simply requesting a plain bun instead of the Kaiser roll that normally is used.
  • Today I had a ham/cheese sandwitch on wheat with a cup of fresh sliced strawberries lol

    but...

normally I have a lean cusine meal. They are really good.
  • Lately, I love eating this salad for lunch. It is romaine lettuce, ranch dressing (only 1 tablespoon), croutons, 2% low fat shredded cheese, and ocean spray craisins (dried cranberry's). My salad usually equals about 300/350 calories and it is DELICIOUS!

Lately I have been bringing hummus, baked pita chips and a Starkist Albacore tuna pouch. The tuna itself is dry, so I top my pita chip with hummus and then some tuna. Its like having tapas at work!!
