what do you think of not logging in fruits and veggies? Weight watchers has always been "free" with the veggies and from what I understand now free with fruit. What if I don't log fruits and veggies- am I cheating? advise?

I log everything I eat as best as I can. Veggies -raw or ones cooked without oils additives etc are very low in calories per serving. Fruits depending on what and how many you have can be over 100 calories each so I log it all!
I wouldn't call it cheating if you don't log it, but if you get into a slump and aren't losing as you thought you would its probably due to the extra calories in the veggies and fruits you aren't logging.0 -
Wieght Watchers is an excellent program and the way it's set up, the "free" fruits and veggies works for them. However, part of how MFP works is tracking your nutrients and calories. While fruits and veggies have fewer calories, you're not going to know your nutrient values for the day. This information can be very important when you're trying to plan meals, snacks, or figuring out patterns of weight loss (or gain).0

This has been discussed multiple times. These foods have significant nutrients and the fruits usually have substantial caloric value and sugar. This site expects that you lob everything.0

i think you would be, everything has a calories count that is a natural food.0

Actually you are not cheating no one but, yourself and those fruits and veggies are all calories and if you overdo that, your weight is gonna go up or stay the same and then you are gonna be upset or mad at the MFP, so just keep checking all your intake and the results are gonna be great as always. You are doing a wonderful job so far... :-) :-)

I log everything...even the Zero's across the board hot sauce....down to the tsp of metamucil. It all adds up.
IMO Fruit should never be treated as a "free food" ever! That's asking for trouble. Vegetables, you could get away with that though, I suppose.0 -
I believe that if we are in a position to need to lose weight, I'm not talking about 5 lbs here or there, but 15/20 or more than "not logging" is not an option....part of the process of logging everything is taking ownership for the choices that you have made....some fruits and veggies do have some calories and or sugars and there fore, if not planned consumption can really begin to add up,,,,,0

Have two apples, an orange, a salad and some carrot sticks. Under your plan = 0 calories. In reality = probably over 300 calories. Definately will make a differance between being over or under your calorie goal.
Just for reference, One medium apple = ~72 calories0 -
Yes, I am also on the new WW plan and it works great! The energy that I have been getting form eating more fruits and veggies has been great!! Also, I have had NO colds or sicknesses since I started the new plan in January!! So, YES to lots of them!!
About 3 weeks ago I started using MPF in conjunction with WW. I am really loving the format of MFP and the fact that you can track other valuable information. Though, you will most likely not gain weight from eating veggies and fruits, I do think it is good to write them down!! You'll see all of the nutrients that you are getting (yaay!!) and being able to go back and see what works on good weight loss weeks (which most likely includes lots of fruits and veggies!) and what didn't work on not so good weeks. Tracking them will probably encourage you to eat more!! )
Hope that help! Good Luck!!0 -
Weight Watchers and MFP are two different approaches. Many report WW works for them -- going by points, general principles, and having fruit and veg "free" (within reason, as too much fruit/vegetables would not be "balanced" any more, which is one of their general principles). With MFP, you track calories and nutrients, and fruit and vegetables have both.
So if you do WW ==> don't count them.
If you do MFP ==> be sure to track them.0 -
and so you all know!!!! ~Zero points plus value does NOT equal ZERO calories.. they have accounted for the highest calorie fruits and veggies in the points for the day. This is why some things seem to have a high point value even though they are high in calorie. It is because they have LOW nutritional value! and you only get about 29 point a day!! and they go FAST!! Also, you need to follow the recommended "Good Guidelines" which is only 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day for them to be ZERO points plus ~so you can't eat 10 bananas! ;o)
I would advise you to track them if you are doing MFP alone..because the new WW system is not based on calories alone!! go to a Weight Watchers meeting for support if you are interested in their plan..or just use MFP and track them! I have lost 2 lbs a week using MFP, so you should do great!!! )
Good Luck!! )0 -
I really can't see how this would work in a calorie counting program. I usually eat 200-300 worth of fruits and veggies a day, and at that I really don't eat that much veggies. To me, that could be the difference between having a deficit big enough to lose weight or not. Log everything.0

great advice everyone. I will continue to log all my foods. getting lazy at this point is not a good idea! thank you all!0

As others have said, fruits and vegetables have calories. MFP is set up to have you reach a certain calorie amount each day. If you don't log your fruits and vegetables, but eat all your calories, you will actually be eating more calories than the plan gives you.
WW doesn't have you log fruits and vegetables, because eating all your Points, won't give you the full amount of calories you need. You eat the fruits and vegetables for those extra calories.0 -
I agree with XxMaryMaryxXI log everything...even the Zero's across the board hot sauce....down to the tsp of metamucil. It all adds up.
