C25K Question for Middle Aged Men

I think my dad might want to try running/jogging/walking a 5K. I told him about the C25k program but I think he might be a little embarrassed to try because if he's talking about it (specifically to a co-worker who's apparently running in the boston marathon) the whole "couch" thing is a little....degrading?
As a middle aged man, if you have done this...how did you deal with the "couch" part of the Couch to 5k?

I have no problem with the name, personally. It's a beginner's running program. That's it. I switched from C25K to the Runner's world beginner program because it's 4 days a week as opposed to 3. Maybe recommend that one if the C25K title bothers him that much? http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-520--9397-2-1X5-3,00.html
It's also important that he not compare himself to a marathoner. He should only compare himself to himself. Once he considers himself a "runner" he might need a little friendly competition to push himself, but not in the beginning.0
