Question about commuting by bicycle

A new bike path opened up that leads right to my office so I just did a test ride. The commute is 10 miles each way with 8 miles on nice bike paths and 2 miles on back city streets. So for those of you who commute by bike, do you have any tips and what is in your emergency repair kit? I have the following:
Air pump, tire patch, spare tubes, valve adapter, multi tool, and cell phone.
I am also probably going to buy a chain repair tool and some spare links. I ride a long wheel base recumbent so the chain seems like a potential weak point.
So, any tips and suggestions? I'm new to street cycling, so be gentle  .

hey Bryan, i also carry a small bottle of slime, just in case. Make sure you have your lights and spare batteries for your lights0

I hadn't thought of the light because it is going to be light for my commute, but I do need to get that and spare batteries before starting. I think I'll get one of those light up vests as well. I love to be seen.
Thanks.0 -

Recumbent!!! I got questions for you...
What kind is it?
What was the price range?
Does your recumbent have 2 wheels or 3?
I live in an apartment so no garage or storage space.
Any advice you can offer would be great.0 -
It is a Burley with two wheels. I don't think they are made any more. I don't remember what I paid for it, as it was several years ago and it has been gathering dust until last month. I remember getting a great deal by buying the previous years model. The really serious bikers want the best technology so asking for an older bike can save a lot. I actually keep it in my house, but the long wheel base makes it take up a lot of room.Recumbent!!! I got questions for you...

Thanks for the tip. I have a messenger bag that is strapped to the back of the seat. I have the perfect waterproof jacket that can fold up and store in there.Hmmmmm that seems a good list. No advice, I bike most days about 4 miles one way. But I take nothing except a cell. If something happens I will call someone or a cab to pick me up. But sofar nothing has happened. Good luck.0

my hubby rides his bike to work daily unless it's a torrential downpour or a blizzard. one thing he invested in too was this really sweet light that attaches to his helmet, not only to help him see but to assist others in seeing him. there's also one that attaches to the back of his helmet too. think of a miner's light or something.0

Hi ~
I use a CamelBak Hydration System. Easier to drink as it frees up the hands. Good luck! Be safe.0
