Hello, I am new to MyFitnessPal and quite frankly to any type of message board. I have been using MyFitnessPal for about a month now and have lost 17 pounds, and according to the BMI calculator I need to loose another 17 pounds just to be on the high end of normal on the BMI scale and 52 pounds to be on the low end of normal so I guess my goal weight should be somewhere inbetween? I work out about 5 days a week on a total gym and do some ab videos, I have a hard time with cardio due to a knee injury that I babied (because of my being overweight) and now 6 years later it really limits what I am able to do as far as Cardio goes. I am also a vegitarian which if you are one you may know just how hard it is to eat super healthy in the protein dept. All vegitarian protien is "processed" and other than that I try to stay away from processed foods. I also work 55 hours a week so most meals are "on the go". I have purchased Medifast meal bars as meal replacements and they seem to have helped my weight loss thus far. If anyone has any great, easy vegitarian recipes please do share  I would too but I really am no cook..lol and any other advice on reaching my goal weight is always welcome!

Welcome! I feel your pain on knee injuries - two surgeries in four years, last one just about a year ago. I was a huge runner, but now I can barely jog! Try using the elliptical - it's really low impact (albeit, not no impact) on knees...but take it slow, and you can get a pretty decent workout! Also, doing a leg press will strengthen your quads, and a calf press works the muscles right in your upper calf right under your knee, so it'll make your knee stronger in the process (I started doing them in physical therapy and have had amazing results!).
As for the protein deficiency, I don't know what type of vegetarian you are, but cheese, milk, and yogurt always have high protein counts and are really good for you! I replaced my old ice cream habit with yogurt, and it keeps my protein intake high.

Good luck, and let me know if I can ever help/motivate you! :)

Hi fellow Ohioan! And congrats on your success!
I am also trying for a whole food vegetarian diet. I have been learning to cook with a lot more beans and also Quinoa. Its an amazing source of protein. Also steel cut oats instead of rolled oats for oatmeal adds protein.
Just keep logging on here and let people know when you need a boost of motivation and you'll do great!
    Keep in touch!
  • Thanks for the advice! I was talking to my husband about getting an elliptical since I can not run (nor jog). So I will definetetly check them out! And I have never had Quinoa..gonna have to get me some :) Thanks guys I really appreciate it!
