Does anyone know if the scales you can buy that read out your BODY FAT % really work? Or how to use them properly? My body fat % keeps going up yet I see myself toning up and showing more muscle. I can take the weight as an increase in muscle mass weight, but the body fat % says I'm in the obese range, yet I weigh under 150 lbs! I am so frustrated and dissappointed I could cry.

I like the weight watchers scale I have. I think it was about 30 bucks or so from Walmart. I went to the gym and they measured it for me...then I came home and jumped on the scale...my Fat % was only off by 1% (figure both measurements have room for error)

That would be very aggravating. I don't know if it works properly. But I hope you figure it out.

I haven't figure out how they can tell if you are adding muscle or fat or losing both. They boggle my mind.

I've got my doubts with the body fat % that those scales measure. The principle is some electrolytes or whatever they're called - it kinda lets some sort of electricity run through your body and based on the reaction (slower or quicker) it measures your body fat and watter weight (if I got it right). It's the latter that bothers me, cos I stick around 58% and they say in the instructions that women should have between 50-55% or so  . Donno, it's still a wonder to me.
  • I decided to buy a new scale this past weekend.

I could trick the old one too easily and got really good at it! Leaned a little to the left and lost 2 lbs! Plus, I could fluctuate 10 lbs if I got on the scale more than once. It was driving me crazy.

I ended up getting a biggest loser scale (not sure how I feel about it yet  ) but I decided to pass on the ones with body fat %, water weight %, BMI, etc. I felt like if the scale has power to drive me crazy without all those extra numbers, I would completely lose it with extra numbers!

My feeling is just ignore it and go by measurements. I can't see how it could be accurate, anyways. Don't really know tho!
