So I decided the best way for me to get in a GOOD work out was to wait until my children go to bed at night and I could leave my husband and sneak off to the gym. So I would go swim, or do cardio for 45 min, shower, change, and get ready to go to bed, the problem came when I laid in bed until 3:30am wide awake. I thougth the first time that it was a fluke, maybe I drake my coffee too late! So I swam three nights in a row every night I was up till 3am not able to fall asleep. So it's not like it's just a couple hours I can't sleep after working out we're talking 5 hours after the end of my work out. I don't get it, what's with that?? Is there something I can do differently? I see so many of my friends on here doing their work outs at night why aren't they having trouble sleeping? Anything I can do to fix it?

not sure if it will work but try maybe some hot tea and a book. maybe that might do it for you. I workout at night also but I am able to go right to sleep. I hope that helps0

I think it is the coffee and the workout makes you stay awake. try not to drink coffee at night at all!0

All the exercise is geting your blood flowing. Try going to bed the same time your kids do, than wake up 2 hours early and do your workout......you'll feel great having all that extra energy in the morning....it may be rough for a few days, but soon your body will be ready for bed at the earlier hour and you'll benefit more from your workout in the am.......good luck!!!0

I also workout at night after kids go to bed. To calm myself down afterwords I listen to relaxing music or my hypnosis track on my Ipod. No I don't actually get hypnotized but it's very relaxing. I do this while stretching. So stretching lasts longer than usual but it's so calming. By the time I'm finished and logging everything on the computer I'm tired. Try something relaxing on your Ipod. Good luck.0

Yep, it the fact you spiked up your metabolism and now your burning all that energy.
I'm the same way, if I workout at night, I'm up all night. Just the best thing to do is go to sleep early and wake up early. You'll feel like a million dollars after that all day anyways.0 -
I work out at night too and have the same problem. Sorry dear.0

The same thing was happening to me and I switched from late night to early morning. Now I wake up at 4:30-5:00 and go to the gym before anyone wakes up. I am energized through the day and I am ready for bed early. Your body is pumped after a workout, so it takes a while until your body slows back down, and if you are muscle training then that is another natural high that will not let you sleep, so I would just switch up the workout for early morning. It will be hard for the first few days but then you will feel great and it will become a habit. GOOD LUCK!0

Maybe you are meant to be a moring workout person. I've always worked out at night and find that I sleep like a rock once I hit the pillow.0
