Improper breathing during exercise = high bpm??

Just trying to figure some things out and had a question for those exercise hard, especially those who run.
My hr is very high for my age/etc, while exercising; however, it shoots way down when I inhale a deep breath and exhale a few times while running. I've noticed I do not breath big at all when I run and wonder if this is an issue - my breathing. This is something I tested out on my own last week after being told I have a sinus tachycardia. After running a good 15 minutes and having my hr go as high as the mid 190's after just 3 deep inhales, exhales slowly, it decreased to mid 180's very rapidly.
I will call my cardiologist of course about this, but wondering if anyone has noticed their bpm go up if they are not breathing properly. Is this normal?

Learning how to breath properly can do wonders for running. I find it best to breath in rhythm with my running and you can breath deeper as well. I usually take 3 paces to breath in, 1 to breath out. Towards the end of my run it will reduce to 2 in, 1 out.0

So do you wear a hrm? Is your rate effected by the way your breath? I'm curious about this - would be nice to find a way to decrease my bpm by just learning how to breathe right. However, maybe I already am - I have never really thought about breathing when I run but I never used to breathe fully - kinda like breathing 1/2 the air in air out but never a full breath ever. Wonder if this is actually part of the reason my hr is so high? Or does this not effect a hr at all?0

I actually find that my HR goes up with proper breathing. I'm interested what others have to say. I am new to running, and working on my form and breathing. I usually breath in for two paces, out for two paces. Is it better to exhale in one quick breath?0

I think it's better to exhale in 1 quick breath as you are getting rid of the used air faster and getting in new air.
When I give plasma, I have to start breathing fast to get my heart rate up, otherwise it's too low. Likewise, if I really slow down my breathing I can really slow down my heart rate.0 -

Mine is. If you breath correctly you will see the BPM drop a few points. I have learned to breath in from the nose, out through the mouth, like boxers do.0 -

It is possible to breath through the nose while running? I've never been able to.0

I start out breathing slow and BIG in the nose, and slow out the mouth, if I get tired I change to just mouth.... When I really start dragging I think about filling my lungs with as much energy (air) as I can, that slows the process down I think, and I really do get a burst of energy from it.0 -

usually its normal for your heart rate to drop when you breathe slowly..test it out while not working out. just sitting.0
