Does smoothies instead of meals make you lose weight?

I've just started and i feel so much better, however will i lose weight or what?

I have replaced Breakfast, Lunch and Supper with a smoothie and i have a good pasta meal for tea

Is this a good idea?

    You can lose weight by lowering your calories or carbs any way you see fit, but the real answer is it a way to keep the weight off long term? Are you planning on drinking smoothies for the rest of your life or do you plan to eat real food in the future? I realized that I needed to find a eating plan that would help me grow healthier and fitter while feeding my body at the same time. This journey is a marathon and not a sprint. Time is your friend not your adversary. Find a plan and work the plan. Progress not Perfection is the key.

    To be honest, it doesn't sound like the most balanced meal plan. Neither the smoothies nor pasta have terribly much protein, which helps to keep you feeling full, and is definitely necessary for your body to help sustain your muscles! Also, like the previous poster mentioned: are you going to keep drinking smoothies for all your meals for the rest of your life? Maybe you are, but I'm not sure how sustainable that sounds. I think you'll have greater long-term success if you make small lifestyle changes over time, rather than a drastic one like this, that you probably won't stick with. :)

    Can you try just working more veggies, lean proteins (seafood, birds, tofu, beans & legumes, etc.), and whole grains into your diet? That might be a more healthy choice in the long haul.

    Is this some kind of "smoothie mix"? It doesn't look like a very good deal nutritionally speaking. I make green smoothies everyday but mine are made with fresh fruits and vegetables and I add a scoop of whey protein. I will occasionally use them in place of a meal (usually breakfast) but typically I use them for a post workout snack.

    I agree with the poster who mentioned protein. Your current plan has very little of it and your body won't have what it needs to repair and build itself if you're working out at all. Smoothies like yours may be convenient but they don't actually feed your body and that's the whole point of food; it's fuel.

    Don't be afraid of real food. That's where all the important building blocks for our bodies are and we need good, nutritionally dense food. It's not the enemy, we just need to consume it wisely. Personally, I'd opt for real food smoothies, more protein and ditch the pasta (or at least replace the majority of it with nutritionally dense foods like fruits, vegetables, meat/protein and whole grains.)

    That looks terrible.
    Your body needs protein.
    You're probably giving it under 10 grams a day if you're just drinking smoothies and eating pasta.

    You might lose some weight, but a lot of that weight will be muscle.



    Read into body composition. You need to be working on reducing your bodyfat, as opposed to just weight loss.

    I have a smoothie or protein shake for breakfast at least 5 times a week. Other days I eat egg beaters with chicken ( more protein). I would do what the others suggested and eat more protein to feel fuller. There are days where I have protein shakes for 2 meals if my body feels like I need it (because of hunger or muscle cramping). I've lost almost 25 pounds in 6 weeks doing this. Good luck!

    It sounds like your smoothie is really high in sugar, which I'm sure makes it taste better, but it doesn't seem very nutritious. I've never tried weight loss shakes before, but I'm sure there are thousands of healthier options out there.

    Not any more than a good balanced meal would.

    If it's not something that you're ready to do the rest of your life, then don't do it.
