Hey everyone (:
So I tried to calorie count, and I'm just awful at it. I end up eating a bunch of processed foods that have mainly empty calories, and my craving become unbearable! The only thing I've ever been successful with is low-carbing (Atkins), but I got comfortable after my husband returned home from deployment and went on a 6 month binge and gained every pound back. I realize it's a lifestyle change, and a lot of people criticize a low-carb lifestyle as being unsustainable. However, I think that could be said about ANY kind of diet/restriction (calorie counting, fat counting, weight watchers, etc), because if we had all been permanently successful before, we wouldn't be going through this weight loss cycle over and over!
I personally like low-carbing because I feel like I'm eating the way I was meant to - meats, lots of vegetables, low glycemic fruits, nuts, etc.
Right now I'm on day 2 of induction, and I'm SOOOOOOO tired. Can't wait to get past this stage of "induction flu".
Looking for buddies who do similar diets and/or weight loss goals!

Get the hungry girl cookbook or look online - tons on high fiber, low carb recipies....and they are good too!! Little changes add up - for example the tortilla shells i was buying were 200 calories and lots of carbs. I switched to a different brand...80 calories and tons of fiber and low carb...
good luck!0 -
I hear ya girl. I hate calorie counting. To me it is so much easier to count carbs. I had done the Atkins about 5 years ago plus worked out at Curves 3-4 days/week and was very successful, then got pregnant and the rest is history. I started with My Fitness Pal last week with counting calories thinking I would give it a chance but I have been teetering on just going low carb. Good luck!!0

I'm doing a combination of Atkins, watching my calories, cardio and MFP. It's been working so far. I've stayed in induction for 3 months and have lost 40 lbs. The first couple of weeks were tough with headaches and cravings but since then I've felt great. I'm rarely hungry or crave. I know there is a lot of negative talk about low carb but it works for me.0

Hi there, since starting with MFP I've been analysing how much I actually eat. I've cut out a lot of carbs and I've found that I have masses more energy and I'm not affected by that mid afternoon slump at work when I used to have bread for lunch. I tend to stay fuller for a lot longer and whereas before I'd begin to get hungry around 3, I can now go til 7.30 in the evening before I need feeding again - big bonus! I stick to protein and veg in the evening, I feel much less bloated and I really notice a difference on the scales if I stay away from bread. Having said all of that, I had pasta for tea last night, and it was all the more incredible for having it only once a fortnight!0

Low carb has always worked for me in the past and I've been eating that way since early March. However, I had my gall bladder out in December, caught a stomach virus last week, and cannot get my digestive system back to "normal". I'm switching it up to a low fat diet for awhile to see if I can get things back on track (and make friends with my liver again) and then will probably go back to low carb. Unless low fat actually does the trick. Feel free to friend me.0

So nice to hear from a lo carb person! The main reason I like lo carb better is because I don't have hardly any cravings. The second I bring back a carb the cravings start. I know I have to add them back slowly.
I have been doing the Dukan diet. Have you heard of it? I am not necessarily losing real fast but it is pretty easy to follow. You can check it out on line.0
