Zumba

I've been doing zumba but I don't know how to track it as an excerise it doesn't pick up as a known excersie. I wouldn't know how many calories I lost and such. Any ideas.

Wear a heart rate monitor. I average 650 calories in an hour of zumba, I'm 5'4" 140lbs and I go as hard as I can.

I log it as low or high impact aerobics depending on how much I've done. I also see people logging it in as cardio.

If you google it, you'll find it listed between 500-1200 calories burned per hour. The people in my class who've checked w/ a hrm have been coming in around 800. I like to err on the side of caution so I've been counting it as 500 for myself (since I don't have an hrm).

I added my own zumba based on my heart rate montior. I believe you can do it as high impact aerobics. I burn between 800-1200 calories in 60 mins. I have a really intense instructor and we go fast pace for the entire hour.

    Hi,

I have the same issue. I track it as aerobics, general, but would love something more precise.

I log it as Cardio... "Dancing, aerobic, ballet or modern, twist". They really should add Zumba to the list of exercises... I agree.

I use "Aerobics - general" it's the closest thing to my HRM

I have entered it as my own exercise, under Cardio (since it's getting that heart rate way up there, it's most definitely cardio). Most of the people wear an HRM in my classes and no one burns less than 600 calories. So, I would recommend adding Zumba as your own exercise and put in 600 calories for an hour. You should be safe that way.

You can loose anywhere from 300-1200 calories in one Zumba class depending on how fast/slow paced it is. I would consider it as dancing, fast.

I have a monitor that tells me how many calories I am burining. I burn about 715-750 calories a class. Before I got a monitor, I listed Zumba as general areobics. I will tell you that general areobics was close to what my monitor tells me.

I usually put in dancing, but could be doing it wrong. I love Zumba. Such a great workout!

I wear a heart rate monitor. I am 4'11, 112 lbs and burn an avg of 450-586 an hr, I go ALL out...I have to, I'm the teacher

Getting an HRM is a very good investment to make!
