Truth about eggs?

I eat two eggs every morning I would say 5 days a week sometimes 6. I've read a lot of conflicting information on whether or not this is bad for you. I am 25 years old I'm in pretty good health other than the 40 pounds I am trying to shed. I don't have a problem with cholesterol (yet) eating eggs in the morning has really been helping me stick to my diet it keeps me full till lunch and I have a lot of energy. I eat them every morning with a cup of spinach and some feta cheese. I don't like egg whites they make me really sick, I have to eat the yolk, I've tried to just eat the white and a drop of yolk and for some reason I can't get myself to do it. I am always very nauseous in the morning... I've been that way since I was a kid so it's made me sick in the past just trying the whites. Anyone have any thoughts or insight on whether this is ok?

Unfortunately, you can find as many opinions pro as con. Which, by the way, applies to most diet issues. I eat eggs daily. Love 'em.0

I don't know but I eat 2 eggs from my Grandparent's chickens nearly every day. Since I've started doing it I've lost almost 20lbs in less than 2 months so it's certainly not hurting me any.0

I eat 4 boiled egg whites every morning. I've been told though that the yolk, although it has a lot of the nutrients, is also full of cholesterol. i only eat yolks once a week.0

Have you tried Egg Beaters? I find that they fill me up and stay with me throughout the morning but they don't have any cholesterol....0

I have lost almost 50 pounds...and eat eggs a lot for breakfast.....I would say find what works for you and keep it up!!!!0

Have you tried egg beaters?? I saute some onions, tomatoes and serrano peppers (i like spicey) the throw in 3 servings of the egg betters & 1/4 cup of mozzerella. Think it's about maybe 155 calories. I can't taste the difference? Maybe that won't make you feel bad??0

dietary cholesterol isn't gonna mess with your blood levels that much.
I eat 3 eggs every morning for breakfast. And never plan on changing that.0 -
Why don't you try one with yolk, one with out...that's how I eat my eggs. I also like making the one with yolk over easy and mixing the runny yolk with all the egg. Also, there is a brand of egg whites that isn't too bad called Better'n Eggs. It is different than just regular egg whites and even more amazing if you throw in a bit of salsa.0

i eat eggs, yolks and all, practically for every breakfast. they keep me full, they have enough protein to kick-start my day, they're cheap and easy to make. i would limit yourself to 2 a day and if you're going to eat feta with them, i'd use fat-free or low-fat feta. i usually pair mine with a piece of whole wheat or rye toast.0

Science shows that dietary cholesterol has a pretty minor impact on blood cholesterol. Body fat, too much sugar, and nutrient defiiciency affect cholesterol much more. So if eggs help you lose weight you are much better off eating them than having high body fat % without eating them.
I eat 10-12 whole eggs and another 5-6 egg whites a week and my cholesterol and triglycerides are golden.
I repeat :

They are very, very good for you. I tried to do the egg whites when trying to get more protein (1 whole and 2 white only at one time) and they made my tummy hurt pretty bad.
The cholesterol in eggs is the good kind (I think). They got a bad rap years ago and they are still reeling from all the bad publicity. But they are very, very good for you. I also remember someone here saying that dietary cholesterol isn't bound to blood cholesterol. Not quite sure what that means. (My mom has had cholesterol issues and even she eats them - just not every day)
But if you are worried about any cholesterol you can try egg beaters. They don't taste like pure egg whites and they aren't too bad.0 -
I don't normally watch dr. Oz but the one day I did he was discussing eggs. He said that if you are exercising then the cholesterol is not bad for you.0

I have been eating eggs daily for well over 20 years. I have never had cholesterol blood work come back out of normal until a few months ago. I considered the eggs as a source of the problem. After looking at the rest of my crap foods diet though I left the eggs and changed everything else. :laugh: Just had my blood work done again and all numbers are normal. So clearly it was not the eggs, more likely the saturated fats and such that I was eating were the problem. On the plus side the 'out of normal' numbers are what gave me my wake up call and got me to MFP. :happy:0

THE TRUTH? I like eggs for breakfast too sometimes scrambled, sunny side up/over, poached with real bacon! or canadian or even turkey bacon, huevos rancheros, eggs benedict you name it! -- I also like variety lots of fresh fruit, Steel Cut Oats, All-Bran, whole grain waffles.
Eggs aren't just for breakfast either! They can be really great at other times of the day too e.g. PASTA CARBANERA
and omelettes, crepes can be good for lunch or dinner too.
BOTTOM LINE... it's all about balance...don't have to get exclusive like Edith the Egg Lady, from Pink Flamingoes to enjoy some eggs once in awhile!0 -

Cholesterol is actually needed by your body to make all sorts of hormones, as part of the structure of cell walls, producing bile for digestion, and making vitamin D. So if you don't eat any cholesterol, your body will make it itself. Blood cholesterol numbers can be related to diet, genetics, other conditions such as thyroid problems, age, gender, and probably some other things too, just to complicate the issue. Eat your eggs along with a healthy diet and enjoy them.0

Cholesterol from food has been shown to make very little difference to your blood cholesterol hence the governments U-turn on eggs. If you do suffer from high cholesterol then it might be better to avoid them but if your cholesterol level is fine then go ahead and eat them.
I've found them very beneficial, eat 2 whole boiled eggs several times a week and make a very filling omelette as a meal using 2 whole eggs and 3 egg whites occasionally. Luckily my one son prefers the yolks so eats them as I HATE waste0 -
I skip eggs all together, but, I'm also a vegetarian who is ALMOST vegan (for the better part of two years now.) Eggs just gross me out. Always have. Think about what an egg actually is, and then you don't want to eat them anymore...
Personally, (and there are a billion studies on both sides of the aisle- I should know as I'm currently writing my thesis paper on how veganisim can treat heart disease.) I would skip eggs and look for better sources of low fat, low cholesterol protein - preferably whole grains and/or plant based proteins.
As for cholesterol from foods making little difference, I can attest to that NOT being the truth.
I had my first heart attack at 19, by the time I was 22 my cholesterol was in the 250's. Without a SINGLE medication, my levels are now in the low 100's. The ONLY difference now is that I don't eat any Saturated Animal fats.
Just food for thought.

I'm not. After 4 years of Dr's, tests, and thousands of dollars- I can tell you the only thing wrong with me was that I was obese, ate a crappy diet, and was constantly stressed. Since stopping consumption of animal fats, I've drastically improved my diet, there by lost weight and improved my stress levels.
Also, the newest studies are now showing strong correlation between daily egg eaters and Type 2 diabetes as well.
Not too mention the fact that one of the top childhood allergies is eggs, that studies show that about 2.3million eggs are contaminated with Salmonella at any given time in the US Egg production, the several studies have linked daily egg consumption to antibiotic resistance, and that in general chickens that mass produce eggs live in unimaginable conditions. (I'm not an animal rights activist by any means, I don't eat animal products for my health.) All of this seems to add up to a great big sign that should warn people not to eat eggs. Aside from the fact that an egg is basically the leftover from a chicken's period.... EWWWWWWW.0 -

I'm guessing alongside with animal fats you dropped processed foods including high sugar items as well. I eat primarily animal fats and I am at my peak physical condition.0 -
Not for the first few months, I was still eating things high in sugar and carbs. The initial drop in cholesterol was solely due to subtracting animal fats. I didn't experience any weight loss until I got really serious and also cut out highly processed foods.
In three months, I went from 256 to 185. No medication. No exercise. Only stopped eating meat and eggs. I hadn't completely cut out dairy yet. Medication doesn't even work THAT well.0
