What do you guys think of the 40-30-30 guideline? 40 percent cabrbs 30 percent fat and 30 percent protein...my trainer has suggested that im not losing weight because of the amount of carbs im eating for dinner because im eating too much they arent burning away and instead im storing them...shes suggesting i try to eat most my carbs during the day. It sounds like common sense lol do any of you follow these principals?

I don't know anything about the principle's, but...I have found that a high carb breakfast gives me more energy throughout the day; lunch and dinner is higher in protein and keeps me satisfied without the urge to snack. Good luck!0

I think those numbers are pretty good. I was there for a while. I've read that each meal should be a balance of carb/pro/fat. You can eat carbs at night. I eat carbs at night and it hasn't affected my weight loss at all. I will have them at dinner and even have my protein powder and milk (has 13g of carbs) before bed and have dropped weight overnight. But that is me, not you.
The number are good, though. I took a Jillian Michaels test (oxidizer test - you can google it). Those are the numbers I got. I have since changed to 40/35/25 based on advice by a trainer here (stroutman81). But he never mentioned carbs only protein in grams and fat as percentage.0 -
6 years ago i went from 250 to 178 following the zone diet rule, with biking to work and weights. in a little over 5 months.
now 5 years later I am doing it again hehe, but im not going as strict as I did last time but sorta trying to keep that ratio in back of mind. and I am up to 8LBs lost in a week and 3 days by coming close
But then again it might have something to do with not drinking 2L of coke a day too lol0 -
@ hpsnicker1 my trainer also suggested 40-35-30 hehe it wasnt so much that she didnt want me to eat carbs at night she just found i was eating wayyy to many carbs at night lol so i didnt have enough time to burn them before bed time
@slayer66 thanks! knowing its working for you helps my trainer also told me not to be super consumed with making sure i dont eat over 40 percent carbs just to be more aware of how many carbs im eating and how many at each sitting...sometimes i was doing potato meat and rice lol no veg so i guess it makes sense thats carb overload lol
thanks for the responses0 -

I also did the 40-30-30. Lost 35 lbs, and then got married, vacations, no workout. Gained some back.
I'm back again and doing 40-30-30 again.0 -

I'm approx 1800 calories per day, so I aim for 6 x 300 calories.
When I started, I usually just make myself a meal. , and find out what % the meal comes to. Usually our meals are more Carb based, so I add almonds, cottage cheese, or more meat to make it as close to 40-30-30.
After you do this a few times, you will have an idea, plus I'm a repeat eater.
At the end of the day, I try to make sure if my meals weren't 40-30-30, that my day is pretty close to 40-30-30.
One snack that I enjoy 40-30-30 is Cottage cheese with apple, and chopped almonds.0 -
anyone know how to figure out the percentage for every meal :S ???0

anyone know how to figure out the percentage for every meal :S ???
But once you have a "zone" meal figured out, then it's just repeat the same ingredients.
Example Cliff builder bars are very close to 40-30-30
Calories. 270
fat 8 grams
carbs 30 grams
protein 20 grams
Calculate Calories
fat 8 x 9 = 72 - carbs 30 x 4 = 120 Protein 20 x 4 = 80.
Now find % of totals.
Carbs 120/270 = .444444 * 100 = 44%
protein 80/270 = .296296 * 100 = 30%
fat 72/270 = .266666 * 100 = 26%
So Cliff Builder bars are 44-30-26 %
Hope that helps.0 -
yesterday was my first day of doing 40-30-30 and i felt amazing0

My calories are 1584 for the day, I split those evenly for carbs, prot and fats, throughout my day. Fats are double the calories of carbs and proteins, so you get about half the grams.0

I started doing 40-30-30 a month ago and I have finally moved out of my plateau as well as feel great.0
