Reaching Out to Anyone Who Needs It

Hello MFP! My name is Krystle, I'm 25 and live in Atlanta, GA. I just wanted to reach out to anyone out there that may need motivation and support. Weight loss is not an easy journey and I want to extend the olive branch of motivation and support. . I own my own journey, have lost 60lbs and have 40 more to go! But It has been worth every pound and every inch!
Would love to share any advice or give the extra push to anyone who needs it! Feel free to add me! And good luck to everyone on this journey! It can be done and you will do it, as long as you give it 100% everyday!

Hi Kris_T - Thank you so much!! I weighed in this morning (week 2) and gained a pound and was very down on myself....I need to watch my sodium....and I had stir fry last night with soy sauce so that might be the culprit...I drink lots of water but will start drinking more, over 64 oz/day.....and reading the sodium content on foods.....what things do you eat that are low in sodium?0

Hello! Well for me I try my best to eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, and if I do eat things like soy sauce, canned soups, tomato sauce, black beans, etc I like to make sure it says low or very low sodium on the label. You will find the cleaner you eat..the less sodium you consume. Also, if you are going to be higher in sodium you need to flush it out with LOTS of water. My diary is public...so feel free to take a look . I'm not always perfect, but I try to be an conscious of processed and fast foods as possible.

I am stuck in a funk... I started working out and watching my calories in December. My beginning weight was 183, and I am 4'9 or 4'10 who knows. I began walking a paved trail around the bottom of this mountain preserve and I also started using MFP eating only 1200 calories. By the beginning of March I was starting to attempt hiking the actual mountain maybe once a wk and Ive got down 30 lbs. Now I hike the mountain 3-4 times a week (since mid March) and I dont stop, I truck my butt all the way up and run all the way down. The intensity of my workout has went up a lot and I am not losing anything!!! I fluctuate between 150-153... UGH!!! All my friends are starting to work out with me and they are losing weight like its nothing and I am so stuck. I will admit, I screw up sometimes! I try my best to stick to 1200 calorie diet but with working out I feel so hungry. My eating habits have dramatically changed from the way it was before so why arent the pounds still shedding. I swear all I need to do is look at a piece of bread and I gain 2 lbs. I also struggle with my water intake, I usually drink around 32oz to 64oz. I hardly drink soda, or juice... but sometimes i will indulge. I get gnarly sweet cravings... thats where i mess up. I have 3 kids so they have snacks and sometimes i sneak one in. I am miserable, and I feel like quitting. I work so hard almost every day and it seems so pointless right now. My goal is 125... and I feel like I will never get there.0

do some weight training, build muscle, and that will help with weight loss.....you are doing cardio now but incorporate weights in too, 3 times/week.......try that for 2 weeks and then tell me how you did....you have what it takes obviously so I know you can do this!! :happy:0

Thanks for the advice. Ok so I have a lame question... how can i incorporate weight training without a gym membership? I am broke lol... thats why I hit the mountain, ITS FREE haha! Any suggestions?0

I got it, I see your diary now.....I see you eat Quaker Oats, oatmeal...is that the kind in the pouches, or the quick cooking oats from scratch? the ones in the pouches must have lots of sugar? and I have thought of trying greek yogurt but not sure I will like it from what my friends tell me..0

LilShortChick you need to eat more...if you are exercising and only eating 1200 calories then your body is not getting enough fuel. Try eating back your exercise calories..see if that helps, it should help.0

Start strength training and also as counterproductive as it may sound, you need to eat more. The idea is to NET as close to 1200 as possible, this is especially important when you hit a plateau like it sounds like you have. So for example, if you eat 1200 calories but burn 500 a day...you are only truly eating 700 calories...not enough Those would be my two biggest suggestions. I have a 2 year old and I know what you mean about the snacks in the house...but what I do now is buy very kiddy snacks...stuff that I wouldn't eat (motts toddler 40% less sugar juice, mickey mouse shaped cheese, gold fishes). I'm pretty fortunate in the fact that my son loves fruits and veggies so that helps. For the sweet tooth you have, try making a fruit smoothie or I like the Kellogg's Fiber Antioxidant bars, "back to nature" honey almond flax granola! Sooooo good! Also, make sure you are watching sodium intake...that stuff will sneak up on ya! LOL and lastly, I know you may hate it...but you HAVE to get rid of the juice and water...useless, empty, calories that you can use eating something better.

Try doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred video, you only require a set of dumbels that you can purchase at walmart for cheap.0 -
I have hand weights (5 pounds each, 2 of them), bought at Walmart for about $5 a piece maybe...or Target, most chains have them....start out with 5 pound weights and look up different moves on line, print out the different moves (versus buying a DVD to save money) ......then move up to 8 pound weights if you can..I stick with the 5 pound weights....they work. I do about 6-7 different moves, all for arm strength, back strength....for your legs you can get the weightst that wrap around your ankles.......any little bit helps.......I hopet that helps!!0

Greek yogurt is delicious...! It packs a great protein punch and yoplait makes one now. I usually eat chobani or oikos. Great flavors, just make sure you get the fat free or non-fat kind!0 -
you are so right... I see the numbers go up for my daily calorie intake and i get scared so I try not to ever hit more than 1200 even after a 700 cal burn work out!!! OMG i have been sabotaging myself! AHHHHHHHHHHH! Ok well I am gonna eat more, but of course the good stuff. And as far as the weights, i can manage to get some cheap ones from walmart thanks everyone! I feel better now and I really hope this helps!0

For folks looking to add weight training to your regimen but don't have money, search online for "body weight workouts". They start by using only your own weight to increase muscle strength and mass. Also check out Goodwill and other thrift stores. People buy weights and stuff, then don't use them, or don't use them for long, so they end up at second-hand stores. See if your area has a "freecycle" group online (it's through Yahoo Groups), and request on there for weights, steps, bands, balls, whatever you might use that someone else has taking up space in a closet or basement. You can also make weights with sand and a tightly woven fabric, or use jugs of water, or canned goods. There are all kinds of ways to add weights without spending much.
