I have a 10lb kettlebell and do Jillian Michaels kettlebell workout to it. I didn't really burn THAT many calories. I think my HRM said I burned 200 in 20something minutes.
  • I use a seven pound kettlebell and when I do J.M.'s Level 1 kettlebell workout, I burn about 300 to 350 calories in 25 minutes (I weigh 175lbs). This is also after about twenty minutes of cardio to warm up, so my heart rate is already up going into the workout.

I have a 8 lb kettlebell and do the Prevention Magazine's 20 minute Kettlebell workout. I don't burn 400 calories, but between 250-275 calories.

    Hello All,

I'm new here but I'm an RKC (Russian Kettlebell Certified) Instructor and there's been lots of talk about that 400 in 20 minute article. It's based on doing a regimented advanced workout using a KB move called the snatch. At 175 lbs, I typically use a 35 lb bell for this workout. So, using a 10 lb bell with a less aggressive workout, like that in Prevention, will not yield the same results.

That being said, finding an instructor or good video for KB training will give great results, if done properly. If you have any questions, let me know. I'd be happy to answer them!
