I am always surprised how many people bother with heart rate monitors, and gym machines, scales. I would do those things if I was seriously competitive about sport, but I am more a casual, 10k-half marathon person who just wants to be fit. I don't care about quantifying how fit I am. I don't own scales, and weigh myself once a year if that.
Don't get me wrong, I have found the same on other forums, for instance tracking monthly cycles on fertility/baby forums. Or having to read the parenting books and follow the rules. I just CBA with the numbers. I'd rather do what I feel like, and see how it goes.
Anyone else like me?

So, did you post this to make those of us that do enjoy seeing our progress and using technology to our advantage seem somewhat inferior or something?0

Well, that's the best part everyone can do what makes them happy
not everyone has to agree0 -
Well, I think a lot of people use technology to track their progress.. Heck even using this website is a technology aid.
But I think everyone just has to do what works for them, whether it be calorie tracking, exercising, or just going by the mirror.0 -
Nope, sorry. I have the opposite problem. I am obsessed with numbers! I have to weigh every week and I want to know EXACTLY what I'm burning - (I even subtract my RMR). I'm a mathematical/absolutes kinda gal.
I used to wing it - not paying attention is how I got myself in this mess in the first place! Good luck finding someone out there like you, I'm sure there are others.
Wish I didn't feel the need to weigh myself so much, that would be freeing indeed!0 -
To each their own, but I like to know how my body benefits from a workout, a healthy diet, etc.0

Not at all. Just wondering why people do it. Not just in fitness, in everything. Is it about rules, or just curiosity? I don't get it. Like I said, if I was seriously training to be an elite athlete, I would totally grasp the technology available, but most people aren't aiming for that.0 -

Sorry, techno addict here. If I can use a gadget to keep me interested and motivated, I am totally sucked in! It's great you don't need any extra motivation like that, but I couldn't do this without that stuff. I'm currently anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Nike + gadget I can plug into my iTouch gadget, which is where I found this awesome little gadget I LOVE called MFP
. I also love my scales, my HRM and my Wii + balance board and fit / active games.....and if anyone has a gadget I don't have yet that they love and find motivating, I'd like to know what it is so i can get that too!! haha

I actually hate technology. But I like weighing myself, and using this website. But I don't do HRM or anything. To each his own0

I think a lot of people need the acknowledgement of their work wither its good or bad It is like a soundings board to keep them on track. Such as a map showing you the way, the security knowing your heading in the right direction0
