I made homemade mashed potatoes tonight, 1 cup, with no butter just a bit of 1% milk to make it smooth ... and it says that's 680 of sodium!! holy smokes!

Remove as much processed food as possible from your diet. Stay away from breads high in sodium. A lot are over 300mg per 2 slices. Canned items tend to have a pretty high sodium content unless they specifically say low sodium. Check how much per serving anyway. When possible fresh ingredients are best. Start your day with steel cut oats or oatmeal that has nothing added.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Try not to eat too many processed foods. Make as much as you can from scratch.

Ditto to what everybody else has said about avoiding processed foods. You would be surprised how easy it gets to buy good stuff, fruits, veggies, grains, etc., and start improving what you consume. I now have a freezer full of frozen packaged dinners loaded with too much sodium that I bought a couple months ago before I started, and now in good conscience I cannot eat. I originally thought I would just give it to a friend who is not worried about sodium, but now I think maybe not. After all, why should I contribute to someone else's bad health? I did enough damage to my own in the past (but gettin over it).
