Calculating exercise calories...

I'm on a rowing team and spend about 1.25 hrs on the water every morning before school. I'm just trying to figure out about how many calories I'm burning. According to the exercise diary tracker, I would be burning over 1000 cals every practice, but I really don't think that's right (if I spend an hour on the rowing machine, I feel like I get more of a workout and it tells me I've burned ~650 calories). Any ideas (besides just guesstimating) on how to figure out how many cals I've burned?
Also, I walk about 20 minutes to and from class every day; do those count?

I would put your activity level to extremely active and stick to that, no adding extra and see if it works for a week or 20

your best bet for accurate calorie counts would be to invest in a good heart rate monitor. That way you know exactly how many caloires you are burning in those times.0

have you tried getting one of those watches that shows you what your heart rate is and how many calories you are burning? as for the walking I would count it, but you need to know how fast you walk0

Invest in a HRM, then you'll always know the acurate count0

Invest in a HRM. It's worth every penny and can help you figure out what you actually are burning. As for the 20 min walk, is it all at one time or is it 5 min here and there? if its all at once, then I would count it as a bit of cardio, but if it's broken up into bits, I would just consider it part of your activity level.0

I personally wouldn't count the walking... that is part of your "daily activities" I walk that to my class as well and don't count it.0

Thanks for the suggestions everybody; I've actually never looked that closely at different kinds of HRMs and didn't realize they could calculate calories for you. This is something I'd love to try out after the season is over - I think I'd be embarrassed to have it in front of my team (we're supposed to be focused on TRAINING, after all). ..Maybe if I can find one cleverly disguised as a watch..
I talked to the sports nutritionist for my school, and I think it's best I just follow her rules until the season's over.0
