Has anybody tried the master cleanser diet? That's the one with the tea and lemonade and you basically give up solid food for awhile. You're supposed to be able to lose up 20 lbs in about two weeks on this. Anyone know anything about it or tried?

But.....you go back to solids and you gain it all back and fast. The only way is healthy eatting and exersice. There is no fast and easy way. Your body needs food for fuel in order to keep you going.
Do it right and eat right. You will be much healthier that way.0 -
You would lose weight, but you would gain it right back.
And, you spend a few weeks being dizzy and cranky for your troubles. Also, the cleanse calls for herbal laxatives, which are not a good idea ever, but especially bad when you're not eating.
If you want to "clean your body", feed it good food full of nutrients and plenty of fibre and pure water. Your body will clean itself.

I agree! You have to create a lifestyle that you can maintain in order to lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF! These kinds of diets mess up our metabolism, causing our bodies to go into "starvation mode" - our body is searching for nutrients and our metabolism slows down and tries to hang on to every calorie! Healthy eating and adequate exercise are the key - it may not be as fast, but it will work in the long run!0

I have been doing the master cleanse, but not for the purpose of losing weight. I have been doing it for the purpose of cleaning myself completely out and ridding my body of possible parasites. I have done a huge amount of research on this diet and did not even realize that Beyonce was doing this... or that it was a new fad diet. I honestly did not even know that it was for weight loss... each drink is 110 calories... so if you have 6-12 a day... that could add up to 1200 a day... and you may not lose weight. I also know that people can gain weight... my friend did.... and she is an extremely naturalist... owns a health store.
This diet is extremely hard. I am extremely pleased with what is happening... and believe that all of us have parasites! Books I have read said that 95% of us have them... and also... that it can plug you up. When I realized that we were suppose to have BM's three times a day!
I had surgery in December and my whole body changed. I have started to have problems in the above area. I eat tons of fresh fruit and veggies and have lost 68 pounds. I am so happy with my weight loss.. but distressed over seeing what was happening and how i felt after this surgery. The more I read... the more I knew I wanted to get totally and completely cleaned out. I went to a doctor and went to a few other people telling them my theories. It took me three weeks to get ready to do this diet.
Here is what I want to tell you... I have lost 9 pounds in 6 day, but it possibly may be a lot of water weight and yukko (above explained) weight. (sorry to be so dog on graphic in all of this !)... my skin is changing and the smells that are coming off of my body, and breath are amazing. They say that if you smoked 15 years ago... that as your organs are releasing the toxins and impurities... that you may be able to smell or taste things that you did in your past.
I am 48 and have NEVER gone through a cleanse. I am listening to my body and deciding as I go when to lose. You stay on this diet a minimum of 10 days and you can go on it for a great deal of time. It takes three days to come back off it...
It made a great deal of sense to me. I am really into alternative medicine and living a natural life. Clean water... air... food... it is all very important to me.
So.. for people like me... I think it is a good thing. My friend (that owns the health food store) does this every year! And has since the 1980's!!!
If any of you want to keep track of my experience... become my friend... tamratowersbutler
I will keep you up to date on this.
Tamra
P.S. I work out 5-10 hours a week... and that has slowed down... but I feel the strength and stamina to do it... I just have not been working out as long as I usually do cuz of the friendship with "john" my house potty. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
Wait wait wait. Seriously? Maple syrup, lemonaide, and cayan pepper? Really? CMon. I'm sorry people, but after all the positive results we have seen on here, and all the GREAT ways to make you healthier, I can't believe someone posted this.

Note: a real live MD wrote the above aritcle for webMD, a real, CERTIFIED board GP physician, who states facts, real studies, and expert opinions, not just testimonials from a few people who have tried it!
The irresponsibility of this post makes me angry. This is a fad diet! Really, can we be a little responsible in our posts? Good faith efforts that are wrong are one thing, but this is just down right dangerous to many people, and I'm sorry if it pisses people off, but I won't just sit around and let something like this go unchallanged. Seriously, who thinks this stuff up?0 -
Yea, we do have bacteria in our intestines. Yea, we also have fecal matter in our intestines. And yea, we can get constipated.
*However*, we NEED bacteria in our intestines, just like we need bacteria all over our bodies. They help to further break down food and kill off harmful bacteria. Killing the good bacteria allows for infections and a change in pH of whatever area of the body we're removing them from.
Fecal matter is in our intestines because it takes time for peristalsis (the contractions of the GI tract) to move it oout. All of the food we eat has to be broken down, nutrients must be absorbed, and then fibrous materials left over (along with dead bacteria and dead cells) move through the colon and out of the body. You can't make a BM after every meal because it can take up to 4 hours for that meal to even leave your stomach.
Constipation seems to be the big reason why people like to 'cleanse', but it's actually doing more harm than good for a couple reasons. (Keep in mind that, in a caloric deficit, you have less waste to pass. You don't need to make a BM 3 times a day. Some people do it once, some people do it every other day. There is a wide range of what's considered normal.)
1. If you're constipated, your water and fiber intake is to blame. Either you're taking in too much fiber and too little water, or too little of both. The quick fix of a cleanse treats the symptoms, but not the problem. You need to fix your diet and learn what foods don't agree with you (i.e, some people are sensitive to wheat so they have an immune response that causes bloating and constipation).
2. If your diet is all liquid, your GI tract doesn't have to work to push it out. It just flows right through. What happens to muscles after long-term disuse? They atrophy, or become weaker. If you're already having trouble passing BM's, the last thing you want to do is allow the muscles of your intestinal wall to take time off. They need exercise and resistance just like every other muscle in your body to keep the peristalsis movement strong enough to pass solid waste through.
This will cause weight loss from dehydration due to diarhhea and the loss of food weight. If it contains any stimulant to increase the rate of peristalsis to speed solid food through, it's also interfering with nutrient absorption. So your colon cleansing is actually weakening your GI tract, dehydrating you, and preventing you from absorbing nutrients on an already restricted diet. Plus it uses a lot of toilet paper. :bigsmile:0
