Inputting 1 cup of tuna mayo

I've just bought a pot of "homemade" tuna mayo from the work's canteen to have with a green salad. I've looked online and found that a women's closed fist is around 1 cup, which is pretty much what I have in front of me.

I can't find out how to input that now though, as every database entry I can find for tuna mayo is a can of, or a pot of, or has a weight, and I don't know what 1 cup of tuna mayo weighs.

Any ideas?

would u mean tuna salad?? like tuna mixed with mayo and sometimes celery and other things? or are u just referring to the mayo alone? it sounds like tuna salad to me...kind of like chicken salad....I'd say try looking that up...

look on a can of tuna to see how much it weighs and use that weight. it will be close if you do not have a scale.

You could try looking for tuna and mayo as two separate entries. That might give you more options.

A small tin of tuna is about the same size as a fist. I'd add about 20 grams of mayo when making it for myself but I know that canteens add more than that. So I'd estimate it as at least 150-200 grams of tuna with 20-30 grams of mayo.

Catering tuna probably comes with oil. So you can try putting 200 portions of 1g of:
Lidl - Nixe - Tuna Chunks In Sunflower Oil

Then 30 portions of 1g of:
    Sainsbury's Basics - Mayonnaise

    Just a thought. Good luck

    just tuna mixed with mayo

we have a salad bar as well so I'm going to get a pot of lettuce, tomato, grated carrot and celery later to have with it, but the tuna sells out early!

ouch that gives me 504 calories total :S

I'd tried using the "Ayam Brand - Tuna With Mayo" option, and stuck in 230g total, going by (google searched) 1 8oz tin being 230g in weight - that gives 360 calories

    hmm

see that's what I dont like about this diary, I never know if I'm being realistic or not

I doubt you're eating that much tuna. An entire can of (John West) tuna, when drained of brine, comes to about 135g and about 150 calories or so. 230g would be about two tins worth.

I reckon about 180 - 200 calories is realistic for the combo depending on the type and amount of the mayo you are using. Even that may be an over estimation.

This is why food scales are the way to go if you are really serious on tracking. Takes out the guesswork...

ETA: apologies as I see you have purchased this at your work canteen. You probably won't have a food scale on you ;)

My best estimate is to enter "Subway - Tuna Salad (Sandwich Component)" to me that's the best plain tuna salad to compare to a store bought kind in my opinion...because I doubt they used light mayo or n e thing...just all regular stuff....and that 2.5 ounce serving on that listing seems about accurate for what u are describing (If you have ever been to subway this is approx. 2 scoops of their tuna salad I believe)

that way u can just type in one thing and have ur best *guesstimate* as to what it is...

    Actually, I agree with this.

If it's store / canteen purchased it will probably be more calorific than if you had made it individually. Portion sizes tend to be bigger with higher fat mayo etc.

I would go with what this lady suggests.

I think you've done the right thing. We don't know the energy in the ingredients but we can learn to make estimates of the weight. Just keep estimating and it'll get easier over time.

Do you weigh things at home? It'll help you visualise the weight of different things.

and it's only 260 cals and 24g of fat I believe from what I looked at....much better numbers than what you entered already...really do not think what you have is a whole can of tuna worth of tuna salad...

ok, I'm tired, need to go back to sleep lol...hope I was able to help =o/
