Maybe my body has had enough

I"m going crazy, I haven't lost weight in over a month even though I have been SO good with diet and exercise. So I have a new therory, my body is pissed. I have lost and gained so many times in the last 10 years that my body is boycotting, it hasn't been small amounts, I'm talking 40 -80 lbs each time, at least 8 times.
Is it possible that I have just screwed my body up so badly that it just plain old won't loss weight again?

I'm sure I won't be the only one asking but.... have you been drinking plenty of water? Watching sodium intake? Eating back exercise calories?

I absolutely don't believe that you've screwed up your body, lol.

You're just at a plateau, which happens to all of us. You may need to tinker with your caloric intake, or what kinds of foods you are eating. You may also need to revamp your exercise routine, as our bodies become used to the same old gym routine after a while.

That's proly not it. Open your diary- people can make more accurate suggestions.
  • Bump up your calories by 250 for 5 days. I went almost 3 months with no net loss and did this, and now am dropping again. Don't eat your exercise calories, though!

Plateau's happen. I hit one last May and stayed there the entire summer. I kept going though and was seeing/feeling the changes as my clothes felt better, but the scale didn't move. Finally last fall I shook things up a LOT, started a new exercise program, joined MFP and a few other things that got the scale moving again.
Try a few new things, adjust your diet, new exercise...something is bound to work.

I drink about 4 liters of water a day, always under sodium, I just started eating back my exercise calories and actually upped my calories to see if that helps at all.

    Hey there,

Plateaus can happen for as many reasons as there are workout methods. Let me ask you this:

How often are you changing up your programs, or have you been doing relatively the same things for a while now?

Do you ever just take a week off and do nothing at all?

Are you doing strength training as well as cardio or is your fitness primarily cardio based?

There are lots of ways to break plateaus....most often, rest is one of the best ones!

    Cheers!

You're cute Daisy! I don't think you're body's protesting, you've just hit a stubborn plateau. I've had a few during my this journey and expect to hit a few more :). Try changing your exercise routine or zig zagging your calories a few weeks and see if that helps. Also, remember the scale is sometimes our worst enemy, Most importantly, don't give up.... you will see a change in your body, besides your body deserves the pampering you're giving it now. Good luck!

I think TrainerRobin might explain something in this that can help. You might have to re-calculate your goals.

Switching up your routine can be great but you don't necessarily need to add more exercise, just change things around a bit.

The way I look at is: I've always had weight issues. I've always had food issues. I've had times where I've lost significant amounts of weight, but I've also gained it back - the one thing that never changed is that I wasn't in it for the long haul. Now, I've flipped a switch in my body. I know this is now a forever thing, not a "for now" thing.

I know that for the rest of my life I will be watching what I eat, and burning calories. And, as hard as it is to go through a month long plateau, the scale DOES eventually move. It's hard to keep in mind that this isn't a race - and that sure, it'd be nice if the weight came off continually, but this is a forever thing anyway. Try not to stress about the numbers, just keep working out, watching your cals/carbs/sodium and surprise your body with new and exciting (while still challenging) workouts. We'll all get there, eventually.

I agree completely! Using a program much like myfitnesspal I managed to lose 140lb over an 18 month period. I found that for each combination of diet and exercise, my body had a weight that it would level out at. I would add some more exercise or lower the calories and the weight would start down again. Also, changing the type of calories and the time of day helps. Eat as many natural calories as you can and eat the large meal early. I could eat a huge platter of chicken stirfry and lose weight, but eat one processed meal of similar calories and gain.

Stick with it, you can win!
