Ground beef hesitations...

Hi,
I was just wondering, if you make patties from 80/20 ground beef and cook them without adding any fat, in an non-adhesive (Teflon) pan, you have a bunch of fat coming out from your patties. You are not eating that fat. So, do you still log the meat as 80/20? Or 90/10 would be more accurate?

Have you tried the 96/4 ground beef? I use it in my sloppy joes and tacos with other low fat items. Can't tell the difference.0

You would still count it as 80/20 sorry0

No I have not... I don't know why I prefer the 85/15 (actually I don't use 80/20 that much)
I think it's more tasty even with the fat off. And probably easier to cook...
But next time I'll try again extra lean beef
The amount 80/20 is supposed to be based on the fresh meat so I don't know...0 -
I would log them in as 80/20, but I suggest you get 95/4 lean ground beef. Its a little more expensive but, so worth it!0

Once you add all your goodies to it, you can't exactly taste the meat. I get mine at 1 pound packages for 4.98 at Walmart. Of course for me that lasts all week.0 -
You can use ground sirloin. Its at worst 90/10 and 4oz is only 190 calories. That's what I had tonight and it was just as moist and good as a fattier burger.0

I like lean ground turkey. It is a bit drier then the ground beef so it took a little getting used to but it's only 140 calories for 4oz.0

80/20 sorry.0

There isn't a single person in my house that would do ground turkey but we always do ground sirloin 90/10. Costco frozen chubs are 2.98$ per lb.
I think you still have to count it as 80/20 You are probably over-estimating a bit because it isn't like making a dish that you dont drain the fat but I don't think you can consistently know how much you are draining off. I guess you could get anal and measure off the fat that comes off and subtract it.0 -
Have you tried grilling a hamburger? I gril a lot during the spring and summer.0
