Good (Affordable) Heart Rate Monitors?

Any suggestions for good heart rate monitors that tell you how many calories you're burning? I'm not sure why but I have a really hard time getting a heart rate reading out of the elliptical and treadmills, so I probably need to get a higher quality HRM I'm thinking??

I just don't want to spend a lot of money on one if there are affordable ones out there that work!

Polar is good. Check Ebay for your HRM. They have dozens on Ebay. Mine retails for about $150, and I got it for $65 brand new on ebay. It works perfectly.

I'm in the same boat as you on this one. I asked a similar question (here's the thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/217921-heart-rate-monitor-watch). Basically, I've heard that Polar and Timex are good brands. I keep an eye out on Amazon.com for them (I <3 Amazon), and the customer reviews are all over the place on all of them, but most people here endorsed Polar. Hope this helps.

I have a polar F6 bought at a local sporting good store for only $100. I'm sure you could find it on ebay for less. I have also heard the Polar FT4 is great too.

I LOVE having an HRM and I don't even use the treadmill calories or HR anymore.

I really happy with mine, it's a Polar RS100, paid $60 brand new off craigslist, retail is about twice that. Well worth it, Polar gets solid reviews.
