Is it just me??

So I go to the YMCA everyday at the same time and have been for months. Now there is this new woman that has been coming since the first of the year. She gets there before me and has the one fan on that side of the gym pulled up directly on her back as close to the treadmill as she can get it and has it stationary pointed on her back full blast! I get started on my workout and am getting a good heart rate and sweat when she finishes. She then turns the fan and pulls up her shirt for the air for several minutes then turns off the fan and walks away!! I have asked her more than once to at least leave the fan on when she completes her little deal but she has only left it on once. That means I continue to go without it or break my stride to go turn it on.
I feel so petty being so upset over this but the selfishness and self-centeredness of it is really getting to me!
AM I just being stupid??? GGrrrrrrr =/

No, I would be the same way, you are being nice about it. What if you say it to her right as she walks away so you know she is being a Brat rather then forgetting. Maybe she will remember and make a point to leave it on then. I am sure you are not the only one who feels that way.0

No! You're not! I would feel the same way. I might talk to some one that is a supervisor and ask them if they can put a sign up.. to please not move or touch the fan.. and if them your reason. But be poliet, obviously. lol. You've tried handling like a normal person and has no consideration for others around her.0

"Hey selfish! Leave that on!"0

I would be upset too, however, you can't change ignorant people. You can try to get there before her. Have the fan pointed in a way that shares the wealth (you want to be the bigger person). If she has the audacity to move it onto herself then I would officially go into b$&@# mode.0

You are SO not being stupid!~ That would irritate the hell out of me too. I use to belong to a gym last year, and there are ALOT of weirdo's in there:) I work out at home now.0

Can you get there before her? If you turn on the fan and have it pointing down the treadmill lane before she gets there, maybe she won't mess with it.
Another option is to take the time one day to introduce yourself to her all friendly like. If she is on a first name basis with you and gets a smile and kind word from you each day, maybe she'll remember to be kind in return with the fan
Or, like nmkruse said, yell at her every time she leaves to keep it on.:ohwell:0 -
I'm sorry, do you work out at her house? what right does she have to even touch the fan? If it needs to be moved or adjusted, that should be the gym staff's job to do, not hers or anyone else. I agree with suggesting to management that there be signs up - please don't touche or move. They can even go so far as to say FOR YOUR SAFETY... so that it's not a matter of seeming authoritarian over anyone, but it could imply that they don't want to be sued for lost fingers and such (It could happen!!)
Otherwise you might suggest they do away with the stand fans and opt for overhead fans that are centrally controlled and ONLY STAFF can adjust from a secured area.
Sorry you have to deal with that. In the mean time you could also mention when you notice her getting off the equipment to leave the fan on. I think if you have to tell her everyday, she'll get tired of you telling her and stop doing it.0 -
Get there before her, take the fan and aim it 100% at yourself. When she comes in and sees you, give her a a huge smile and thank her for giving you the amazing, self centered, totally selfish, rude and narcissistic idea to use the gym equipment for your personal private use.
Then march up to the managemant and file a very loud complaint about this stupid woman.
Oh, I forget the bit about poring thumb tacks on the treadmill she normally uses right before she gets there.
She should get the hint and stop messing with this tough cookie:explode:
I HATE stupid people! I wouldn't put up with this BS for one more day!0
