ive recently started incorporating a lot more strength training into my workout (4 days ago), and the scale has jumped up 2.5-3 lbs. is this normal when starting a new workout? or when switching from mostly cardio to a lot more strength?
also, ive been thinking about getting chalean extreme, im a week from the end of TurboFire and ive lost 18 pounds so far, but i want something thats more strength focused. i still have about 20 pounds to lose, will i continue to lose with this program? has anyone tried it?
thoughts?

When you strength train, your muscles tear and therefore need to heal. The good part of this process is that it will increase calorie burn because you body is working a bit harder than usual. The bad part is that, at least initially, you may gain a bit due to water retention, which is just part of the natural healing process.
Some will tell you muscle weighs more than fat, etc but that's kind of a fitness myth. Just keep eating right, drinking your water and exercising and it'll even out eventually.0 -
I have read with muscle training always ends up being better and to always incorporate it into your work out. Building muscle helps speed up your metabolism. If you look on Yahoo Shine i just read an article this morning about 5 things that are busting your fitness. It was saying things people are doing wrong, and pretty much it was about how people dont put muscle training into their work out, and eventually cardio wont be enough0

I read that today too. Cardio is probably 25% of my workout and the rest is strength.0 -

My scale did the same thing this morning! That's why I posted asking a question "what to do?" But, I'm gonna keep the faith and keep on trying. What have I to lose? Oh Yeah, that's right! FAT! :laugh:0

Thanks for the article0

now muscle weighs more than fat so what i would do is light weights more rep so say you work out your arms 8 pounds maybe three rep of20 or 25 instead of 150

but i do strength training in my workout cause muscle burns fat.0

In just a few days it's unlikely that you've gained enough muscle to make that much of a difference. Are you wearing a HRM? Are you replacing all your cardio with strength training? I would have looked to ADD strength training to an already effective cardio program if you're looking to lose weight. Chalk it up to water weight, if it doesn't level out in the next week or so it's time to sit down with a calculator and find out if you're burning enough of the calories you're eating.0

Muscle does not weigh more than fat. A pound is a pound is a pound. You're most likely not putting on muscle either. You have to eat to grow. If you're eating at a deficit your not growing. It could be any number of things like water, sodium, or simple fluctuations.0

Probably water in your muscles while they are recovering.
You haven't gained any fat. And you definately haven't put on 2 pounds of muscle that quickly.
Keep weight training. You'll look much better after losing weight if you continue lifting weights, than if you didn't lift and lost it.0 -
On the topic of your question about Chalean Extreme -
I did do the full 90 days last spring/summer and had AWESOME results with it. I lost probably about 10 pounds or so ( I didn't have much to lose in the first place, I assume someone with more fat than I had might possibly lose more), I lost lots of inches, dropped over 2 pants sizes and had nice upper body, and lower body definition. It worked really well in the abs area too, I wore tight tank tops and felt comfortable in them!! I say give it a go - I think you'll love it!0 -
And PLEASE listen to Chalean on this one - Lift Heavy!!! do it do it do it! I promise you'll like the results!0

thanks for all the advice0
