So i just watched the movie FOOD INC. Don't know if any of you have seen it, anyways, really interested in becoming a vegetarian. I'm not that big on meat, i only really eat it for dinner, so i was wondering How to really go about this, and what i can cook for dinner since i ALWAYS cook Meat, and Veggie.

I started out being a vegetarian and moved to being a pescatarian (seafood only). It was simple for me really. I just stopped and started using morning star, boca and other products like that. :0]0

Take a look at my diary. I eat vegan, but you can still get some ideas. Look at a week's worth of entries. 'The Kind Diet' by Alica Silverstone is what got me started on eating vegan. I started cold turkey (
) last September. 0 -
I'm vegan, and I'd say definitely do research before diving in without any information. Read the Kind Diet, the China Study, and get some vegetarian cookbooks so you're not sitting there starving wondering what you can eat! Best of luck, it is truly life changing!0

Hello,
So I have been a vegetarian for about three years now until recently. When I was not watching my weight it was hard and easy. Easy to eat more low cal veggies but really hard to find the protein without all of the carbs. I started eating fish again and then chicken but its so weird now. I feel guilty when I eat it. I guess I need to remember why I did it in the first place. The hardest part at first is giving up chicken and turkey and also the holidays and altering family meals to fit for you. All and all I have energy still and I feel good. Its not a bad things to do, I think I have saved a lot of animals.0 -
I saw FOOD INC! It didn't make me want to go back to being a vegetarian, but it made me care more about sourcing my foods. I'm eating a lot more organic produce that I buy from local farmers. I get my meat from a local farm (http://www.polyfacefarms.com/) that follows sustainable, organic practices.
I was a vegetarian for three years in my early twenties, and it just really didn't work out for me!0 -
i am a pescatarian, working towards becoming fully vegetarian.
you can add me, or check out my food diary for ideas.0 -
I've been vegetarian for 2 years now, and I don't regret it at all! I started cold turkey, but it might be a simpler adjustment if you start slow--omitting red meat for a month or so, and then move on to omitting chicken, etc. I agree with others, there are some great books out there--I loved Alicia Silverstone's the Kind Diet--there is a website as well, and the Clean Food cookbook is great!0

I'm not a vegetarian but I stopped eating beef and pork YEARS ago! I eat a lot of fish, different types. I didn't cut chicken but don't eat it much. If you like fish, just start replacing your dinner meats with different fish, cooked different ways.0

There are plenty of ways do this.
Get some vege cookbooks and get to work. I have turned over to a mostly vegetarian diet. I eat seitan, tofu, lentils, beans, and things like that. I just made a lentil loaf that tasted almost like meat loaf. Two nights ago I made smart sausages (italian style) with peppers and onions in a tomato sauce. Tonight I will make a tofu quiche with a brown rice crust.
Start using vege products and it will come to you...trust me. Get used to their textures and flavors and you will get the jist of how to use them.0 -
That movie changed my life. But i was already Veggie when I saw it
I have some great recipies for vegetarian dinners that are low calorie and pack full of nutrition!!!! Add me if you'd like and i can help you with any questions you may have. Ive been a vegetarian for a few years now 0 -
Get yourself a vegetarian cookbook and have a little fun experimenting with it. Many people make the mistake of overloading on dairy products during the transition. You will find that there are plenty of other options for getting in your protein. Keep us posted on your progress

I've been a vegetarian for a year and a half- I also made the change when I read Alicia's The Kind Diet. It truly changed my life. I'm ashamed that I'm not eating more vegan, but that's another story.
If Food Inc spurred you to begin questioning your diet, Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer will answer them for you. It's not a book for the faint of heart, but it's a must for anyone struggling with the meat/ vegetarian decision. It's strengthened my beliefs. I have to warn you though, I read it in 4 days and had horrible nightmares every night during that time. It's that horrendous. I couldn't wait to be done, but I knew I needed the rest of the story. The Kind Diet touches on some of the details of the meat industry, but in no way does it give the entire picture the way Jonathan gives it to us.
The good thing is that you can sample the lifestyle and see if it works for you. You don't have to make the big decision and be forced to stay with it forever. Read a lot, learn about fufilling nutrition needs with other foods (obviously I'm lacking in the nutrition part or I wouldn't be here trying to lose weight!! lol)
Best of luck to you, whatever you decide!0 -
Italian food is mostly vegetarian, and japanese is very easy to make so. Get a couple of good vegetarian cookery books, I love the Demuths ones.0
