Refusing to Not be Fit by my next birthday.

I am new to the site, just started it today. I was using a different site and liked it too. I think I always do better when I truly keep track of what I am eating. It is easy to nibble here and nibble there in a day and lose track but with sites like this you don't get to do that if you are true to what you put in your mouth. I have lost 14 lbs in the last 3 weeks basically doing a 1500 calorie a day diet.

I have been over weight most of my adult life and I said when I turned 40 it was going to change, well it didn't. I just turned 44 in March and am no healthier than when I was 40. My ultimate goal is to be between 135-140 lbs. by my next birthday in March which is a little over 100 pounds. I am ashamed and embarrassed to admit that I have let myself do this for so many years. But enough is enough.

I went yesterday to work out with a trainer for the first time ever. He KICKED my butt. Go to a trainer and you will find out quick how out of shape you are. It was hard work but I enjoyed it. I am hurting like crazy today. But, I am going to commit to the trainer at least for a few months and see what happens. My short term goal is to lose 40 pounds by July 4th and I have already lost 14 of that.

I pray every day for the strength to stick with this and do what I need to do so that I can be healthy. Would love any encouragement any body has to offer. Anybody worked out with a trainer? Was it worth the money?

Welcome--I'm new to MFP also (joined last night). Congratulations on making the decision to get healthier and on your weight loss to date! I definitely think that trainers are worth the money, at least when you're starting out. I think that s/he can help you learn the tools you need to later on design your own exercise programs. I saw my trainer maybe once/month when I first started working out, but now I only make an appointment when I'm feeling particularly bad about myself or have specific questions about my routine. If you can afford it, though, and if you get along with your trainer, I'd suggest keeping him around for as long as you want--it can only help! Feel free to add me as friend, if you'd like and good luck!
