Ugh!! They are predicting not just rain, but chance of thunderstorms tomorrow morning for my first 5K. :frown: Any tips or advice? Do they generally still hold them in the rain, and what about thunderstorms? It doesn't say on the race website, but I'm assuming it's rain or shine. I've never run in the rain, afraid I will melt. JK

Races are usually rain or shine. I love running in the rain... the hot shower after is that much more rewarding : )

My first one was in the rain. It makes for a great story - lol!
Bring a dry change of clothes and leave them in your car (don't forget socks!) You might want some lightweight long sleeves & long pants, you may get a little cold after you're done and start to cool down!!
    Good luck tomorrow!
  • We race rain or shine! Unless it's REALLY bad...then it's up to the race director whether or not they'll cancel.

    Have fun!

Races generally go on during the rain. Not sure what happens is lightning is close by.

This is a why it's a good idea to run in all sorts of weather conditions.

I've actually had some very fun runs in the rain. But it was warm. Cold rain, well, that is not so fun so I hope it is warm for you.

I also love SmartWool socks for running in the rain and/or cold.

Have fun tomorrow! I bet even if it does rain the excitement & energy of the race will make up for it.

    Rain or shine.

Just imagine yourself in the military. G.I. Jane style! Take some Airbourne, dress in layers, wear a visor, and power through.
  • Go out and have a blast! its your first, enjoy it rain or shine.

My first race was in sleet in November! It was awful running weather... but it made me go faster because I just wanted to take off my icy, wet shoes! But hey, I felt awesome when it was done  Good luck! It's worth it all in the end!

They might cancel or delay it for thunderstorms if they are in the immediate area. It's bad for publicity when people get struck by lightening.

Thanks for your advice everyone! Yep, it was in the rain... no thunderstorms, so I was grateful for that. I jogged the whole course, no walking breaks! Yay, me!! 36 minutes, not bad for first time, huh? At least now, I know I can run in the rain. And yes, the hot shower at home was the best ever!

    That's a good time.

You know you have crossed the line and become a runner when you lace up the shoes to run in the rain. ;)
