So in honor of Earth Day I will be consuming 2 green smoothies, and I decided to share my recipe for the one I had for breakfast this morning:

-2 cups baby spinach raw or cooked
-1/2 a medium banana
- 3/4 cup frozen mixed berries
-1/4 cup almond milk unsweetened original
-1 cup water
- 1/2 tbsp flax seed
- 1-2 tsp honey or 1-2 packets of truvia
-some ice

I calculated around 208 calories total for 2 of these cups

Blend it all together, top with a strawberry on the side or some pineapple...you can get creative and use whatever fruits you have available at home, I hear it's really good with kiwi too, I just didn't have any.
Anyways, Happy Earth Day! :)

Does it taste any different if you use cooked vs. raw spinach? I've never done a spinach smoothie before!

I used 1 cup raw and 1 cup cooked since I had some lying in my fridge and wanted to get rid of it....i couldn't really tell the difference between tastes, but the good thing about adding fruit is that it takes away the taste of the spinach, so it tastes more fruity than anything

Green smoothies are a staple in my meals. Love them!

If you are like me and don't like the banana taste in your smoothie, you can use nonfat plain greek yogurt as the emulsifier instead.

    Here's my standard recipe:

    1 cup water
    1 cup frozen berries
2 cups spinach, kale, or greens of your choice
1/4 cup fat free Greek yogurt
    1 tsp honey (optional)

This is one serving: 133 calories, including the honey

If you add fruit juice instead of water, calories go up by about 100 calories.....still not bad!

    My best smoothie:

    organic blueberries frozen
    organic raspberries frozen
    almond milk
    agave nectar (for taste)
    almond butter
    a banana
    ice to desired consistency
    spinach!
