So, I talked with a dietician today who told me that in order for me to lose 1-2 lbs per week based on my situation, I need to eat 1600 calories. The actual recommended calorie is 2200 but that website (mypyramid.gov) is usually a little bit high so for us to start with 1600. She stated my body is in starvation mode. I don't know what to think....or do.....please, your thoughs!!!

I don't know your situation NOR am I a Doctor...

But I know that once I started talking to my nutritionist, She is a RD, LDN.

I followed her advice > been losing since

If you body is in starvation mode that is NOT GOOD!!!! Your body has nothing to nourish from.

We are like cars and by that I mean we run on FUEL (Food)

Stay close (within a few/over if you have too) to your calorie goals

Follow her instuction on how much excersize you need ( for example 30 minutes 3x a week?) and How much Water to drink per day...

**Great advice I read today is that if you have a "bad" moment/day (for whatever) follow a mantra, Like you a GPS re-route yourself from bad to good :) **

    You'll do GREAT!!!
You can Friend me if you like :)

I would think that she knows what she is talking about. Follow her directions and see where it goes.

After not losing any weight for two weeks I decided to add 200 calories to my diet and already this week I've lost 2 pounds. Good luck!

I would listen to her. I started off in the 300's and this program told me to have 1800 calories. I have lost 30 pounds since January and have been moved down to 1650 calories. I am pretty active during the day (usually on my feet for 7 hours). Also, I usually eat around 1400 - 1600 calories. But, listen to her...what do you have to lose? Keep up the good work! It will work...you might just need to find out what does work! Happy weight-lossing
  • I'm no specialist, but lost 80 pounds 6 years ago. You have to find the balance that works for your body. Ultimately, you have to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. I know that if I don't exercise at all, I can eat 1,200 calories a day and lost 1.5 - 2 pounds a week. Every calorie I burn through exercise is another calorie I can consume. So if I burn 1,000 calories in a day, I can consume 2,200 calories, etc. I don't think everyone is the same. You have to find your personal balance.

    Listen to her.

YOu don't have to starve to lose weight....even though this is what we have learned. I recently uped my cals to my BMR (around 1500) and lost 2 pounds this week!
  • According to standard charts, I have about 50lbs to lose. Currenlty, I weigh 205 and wear a size 12 jeans comfortably.-so the dietician told me to start with losing 20lbs and then we will reassess the situation- 50lbs of lose may be too much for my build. I have an athletic muscular build- just right now I have a layer (or 2 or 3) of fat around all of it! LOL

I would listen to the specialist. You can re-evaluate the next time you see her and take it from there. If you don't follow the plan she gives you she will have a harder time guiding you.

I am in about the same boat. I wear a 12 now at 194, I have my ticker set for a 50 pound loss to get to 150 but chances are I may not get their. Only chose that number since it was within the normal BMI. Before baby I was 175 and in a 10 (my avatar pic) and was perfectly comfortable and happy.

I am not going to starve to get to 150. I want a lifestyle I can live with so I will keep trecking until I feel comfortable again....be it 175 or 160 or 150....we will see.

Go with what your Doctor tells you. My Doctor has me on a 2,000 a day calorie diet. But more importantly, no more than 30 grams of Fat a day. He said keeping a 1,200 calorie a day diet is really hard for people and it tends to push people off course. So far, I've lost 23 pounds from his advise. And I also don't eat 2,000 calories a day. But like my Doctor said, the most important thing for me is not to go over 30 grams of Fat.

It usually takes a little bit of time to throw your body into starvation mode. I took a gander at your food diary, and you need to eat the amount of calories recommended, and you'll lose weight free and easy. Just remember that the weight doesn't come off over night, and some weeks you might not drop a pound. Log, log, and when you get tired of logging, log some more. That's the key to losing the weight.
