Just got all of the p90x videos, paperwork etc. I've heard several guys swear by it. I'm looking to get extremely back in shape.

Have any females on this board started, finished or tried it? Did it work? Suggestions? Comments?

Around 180, 27, female 5'4, looking to get back to the 114 mark range. I've switched all my food consumption to organic items. Veggies, fruits, milk, eggs etc... aiming for at or under 1200 calories a day is what I was told was right on.

Work out activities consist currently of 30 - 60 minutes of yoga a day and 5 plus miles on the bike through town a day.

  • Definitely dont go under 1200 cals/day...and if you're doing P90X youll need much more cals than that..

I have two (girl) friends doing it who swear by it. The both only need to lose a few pounds and firm up and they both used to be very active and work out at a gym regularly. They mention to me that it burns and is difficult, but they can see results. Because I don't have a history of working out regularly, and have more to lose, it sounds scary to me. Something I'll definitely need to work up to, not start out at.

Try not to go under the 1200 calories. You need the calories for energy that you are burning now, never mind when you start the px90. Good luck

I have tried it twice, but had to quit both times (first due to pregnancy, second due to getting sick). anyway, it worked great for the time that I was doing it. I will say, though, that you will not lose all your weight with one round of P90X (based on the goals you gave). But stick with it and you will see great results. You definitely don't want to go under 1200 net calories. It's really intense, and you need to fuel your body right. I suggest following the nutrition plan that comes with the program.
  • I've tried it before. If you take it seriously, it works.
I was doing it with my mom, and we followed it for three weeks (she broke her wrist and had to stop) but let me tell you, in those three weeks, I lost like 7lbs, and I was able to touch my toes (which I was NEVER able to do before in my life, and btw, I can still do now). I could feel my body getting leaner (it hurts, as does all exercise at first) but it's a good pain.

It works. I 100% recommend it if you're dedicated. :)

    I will link my blog below ... but I am going to tell you a few things;

First; Get a HRM. You WILL have to eat exercise calories back. You will burn a lot at that weight and if you aren't eating enough you won't get through it. I don't even want to hear rebuttals about NOT eating exercise calories back on this ... It is just dumb if you don't

Secondy; Make sure you do either the classic program or the lean program as outlined on the team beachbody website. Don't try to just "wing it" the first time, you'll get frustrated.

Next: Don't expect miracles ... Don't expect to put the DVD in and just "go thru the motions" and then complain that you didn't get results. You really have to bring it ...

Next: If you aren't self motivated ... see if you can get your money back. This program is HARD and the only way it works is if you stick with it and do it SIX DAYS A WEEK. No exception.

Lastly; Read my blog and review on my first round of P90X ... I completed it in the beginning of February. I have pros and cons to the program in there as well as progress pictures. All the answers to MY results are in there and I DID see results.

I am currently doing a second round (lean version this time, first time I did classic) and at the end of May I am going to be doing a Hybrid of P90X and Insanity starting at the end of May ...

EDIT: ps ... I am NOT a Beachbody "coach" but I do stand behind this product and exercise program. It CAN work for you if YOU work IT,

EDIT # 2 I disagree with Ladybug ... You CAN lose the weight as long as you follow MFP guidelines for eating and don't let you NET CALORIES AFTER EXERCISE DROP BELOW 1000 CALORIES PER DAY.
  • Thank you so much for your responses! I'll keep you all posted! Happy Easter!

I did it last year and was very pleased with the results, lost about 15 pounds and a lot of inches. It's definitely challenging, but stick with it and you will be amazed as you start seeing how much more you can do in the program as you stick with it. I'm thinking of mixing in some of the workouts with what I am doing now. The nutrition plan that goes along with it laid the foundation for what I still do now and plan to stick with long term. Good Luck!!
