With every 5 lbs lost I freak out...

I weigh myself pretty much daily, however I only post my weight loss monthly. With every 5 lbs lost, I freak out, thinking that "this is it" , I'm not going to lose any more weight. I'm going to forever be fat. However, every month, another 5 lbs comes off and I sigh with relief. I, then, freak out once again, that "this is it", I'm almost there and will never meet my goal...This is what plagues us that so badly want to feel comfortable in our own skin. The belief that we can't make it, is exactly what makes us NOT make it. I don't know how to explain it, but even though every single month(if not, every single day) that thought runs through my head, I somehow find the strength to push through the lies I tell myself. It's just amazing to me and I thank God for all that I've come through. Just wanted to share...

Way to go on the weight loss. Keep on thinking good thoughts instead of what you can't do. Focus on your daily "I can's" this will help you reach your goal. Even if you hit a plaque you can still continue with your weight loss. YOU CAN DO THIS.:flowerforyou:

You're doing great, but I think you are facing a similar problem I was having. You have or are developing a really unhealthy relationship with the scale. Do yourself a favor. THROW IT OUT. It's super hard, but after a couple of weeks, the stress is gone. Keep doing whatever you're doing that you know works for you, and focus on maintaining that, eating clean, and being healthy. The rest will fall into place. Weigh yourself once a month. Take measurements. Take pride.

That's part of the psychology that has to be dealt with in order to succeed at dieting. I'm reminded of the scene in "The Empire Strikes Back" when Yoda lifts Luke's X-Wing fighter out of the swamp and Luke says, "I don't believe it!" Yoda's reponse is, "That is why you fail." I see this attitude in my co-workers when I lose weight and they say, "Oh, I can't do that. You're lucky."

This was something that my mother could never get through her head until the last 6 months of her life, that she could lose the weight that she had gained, she just needed to see food as a form of sustenance, not a sole psychological support.

Also, don't weigh yourself everyday. Do it every third day or once a week. Also, remember that there are times when you replace fat with muscle and you gain a little bit of weight. Don't worry about it too much. Stick to your diet and remember, only you can defeat you.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and support. It really means a lot to me. I also don't want you to think I'm a "poser", but I realized that I posted this on a technical support forum, so I reposted it on a general forum. I am so thankful for mfp and all of the people that are so encouraging. I also want to be encouraging to others and if any of you want to "friend" me, I'd love it. Thanks again!!

I think it is awesome that you continue to push through all those negative thoughts. Many of us have negative thoughts regularly. I personally think that one of the pieces of puzzle that will make us succesful is learning how to keep going even when we are hearing that negative inner voice telling us we can't. You have clearly found that determination. Good for you. My hope is that some day I will get to a place where the negative voices are more rare. Keep going. You will reach goal. I have no doubt.
