I hate drinking water. I know I'm supposed to have at least 8 glasses a day but it's hard to stay on track. Does anyone have any tricks or suggestions for how to get enough water without disliking it so much?

I don't like either, so I slice up lemons and limes and stick them in it. It helps.0

When I first tried to drink my daily intake of water, I hated it. I've become accustomed to it now b.c. I believe you can train yourself to acquire a taste for it. (I also did that for coffee when I first started drinking coffee years ago and now I love my coffee.) Wanderlust has a good suggestion - I like to cut up lemons and limes and put them in a pitcher of water in the fridge...fresh cucumbers can also be delicious in a pitcher of water (very refreshing). I also wanted to stop drinking so many sodas, so I started drinking carbonated (sparkling) water. Some people hate it - I think it's kind of a treat when I squeeze limes or lemons into it. I hope that helps. Happy Drinking! :drinker:0

Lemons, Limes, spoon of honey,
mint, tea,
If it is the cold you do not like drink it room temp, if you do not like it warm drink it cold or hot.
If you live in an area that has brakish water. NO WONDER YOU HATE WATER!
get a filter for the sink, and filter that water into a filter pitcher.
Because there is no amount of lemon or lime that is going to make brackish water taste better, I swear it evern SMELLS BAD!
You might also want to try sparkeling water, to see if that helps.
Keep us posted as to how this works out for you!

There is a lot of controversy over artificial sweeteners, but if you hate water... try Crystal Lite. It's so good! It has artificial sweeteners in it, but it is definitely a way to get your water in and not hate every moment of it.
I just read your bio, and you are an inspriation. Those few extra pounds will come off... you can do it.0 -
I have a hard time drinking water too. I don't like it ! I find it goes down easier if it's room tempature. So I get a glass from the water cooler and sit it on my desk until it is room temp. Then I drink it in incriments. I don't try to drink lots at one time, that just gags me!!!! My glass holds 2 cups and it takes about 6 drinks to finish it. I fill it up 3 times a day and get the rest in the evening at home.
I tried the lemon, crystal light, all that stuff but they never helped me. So that's what I do.
Hope that helps.
Good luck

Learn to love water. I love water, remember it is a great conductor for electricity, which is what runs our brains. The more water you intake, the quicker you will be at everything, reflexes, thoughts, sight, hearing, everything. Water is the key to life, not to mention the majority make up of our bodies, is H2O. Then add the fact that you live in a kick *kitten* state with great water. My friend never liked water, but I got her to drink it more and more by keeping a full cup around all the time. Now its her pushing it on me. God bless her
I think the lime and lemon slices is the best along with a butt load of ice. Good luck in your endeavor, and bottoms up :drinker:0 -
Totally agree with the Crystal light. It's very yummy. I also find if I put my water in a sports bottle that has a straw it's much easier to drink. I don't know why but I drink more when I sucking it through a straw rather than drinking from a glass, plus the sports bottle tells me exactely how much I have drank.0

Triple ditto on the crystal light. It now comes in the convenient "On the Go" packages that are meant especially for dumping into a 16 oz. bottle of water and I like to do 4 16 oz bottle instead of 8/8 oz it just sounds like less to me, LOL. You can also find a generic equivalent of crystal light at walmart. I love the cherry limeade! :drinker:0

How about that vitamin water? I've never tried but heard it was good.
They come in different flavors but ....it does have some calories.0 -
I am the same as jess. I find it easier to drink when it is in a Nalgene or some other bottle. That way you can carry it with you also. Try Fruit H2O. Flavored water but not carbonated (I think). And it comes in very easy to drink 16oz bottles.0

I hate water too, so I buy the flavored water.0

buy 8 oz glasses and keep tally during the day. I used to put a sticker on the side of the glass and mark when I drank. Actually having an eight ounce glass makes you realize how little water you really need. One an hour during the work day. Eventually you will find you want water, crazy but true.0

I have one a day. They are very tasty and full of good vitamins... hence the name I would assume
The one I drank today was 50 calories and 13 carbs. I like to have it after my workout, very refreshing.0 -
Thanks everybody!! You all rock! I don't want the vitamin water, although I love it: can't afford the calories. Lemon and lime? Already slicing it up. Cucumber? I never would have thought of that but it sounds so good, I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks for the help. :drinker:0

I never liked water either, but for me I find putting lime in it helps alot, and also put your water in a really nice glass, or mug whaterever.:drinker:0

I've been meaning to write to you for the past couple of days about this topic but I hadn't gotten a chance until now.
I bottle my own tap water in any plastic store bought water bottles and save the bottles. Then when my husband and I are done with the bottles we fill them up with tap water and keep the cap off so that all the chlorine in the water escapes over night. You'll start to see bubbles form at the surface and all you have to do is just pick up the bottle and tap it down on the counter top again to release the bubbles. This usually takes away the taste of our water. Depending on your water maybe that will help I know it did with ours. Then maybe you can put the lemons and limes in to make it taste even better.
Once our bottles have gotten old we just throw them out. You can also go to the store and buy water in bulk and save the bottle to refill and throw them out once a month. Also rinsing them out and washing them saves their use!
I hope this helps!!0 -
I was refillling my pint size water bottles until I read an article ( on MFP?- dont remember now) that states that this is dangerous as the plastic they use for these types of bottles starts to degrade. They are nont meant to be refilled even if you rinse them out with hot water. The plastic starts to break down or something. I swear - everthing is bad for you!!
The only way I can drink enough water is out of one pint bottles - I dont know why! Doesnt work out of a glass - has to be a bottle. The pint bottles are small enough to drink in a short period but I only have to drink two in the morning and two in the afternoon to get my quota0 -
Lemons (or any fruit) and water is a great way to choke it down. I use a Brita and it really does make the water taste better.
With so many low cal crystals you can add to water - it makes it easier to get it down.
My trick is a bottle of water on the drive to work and one on the way home (just hope I don't get stuck in traffic :frown: ). If you drink another 2 or three glasses during the day, you will have enough to meet your quota.0 -
Water is great. Make sure its filtered and then you get used to the taste. Drink it cold and it tastes pretty good. I can drink water now at any temperature. When you are thirst, you're body will drink the water, no matter the taste.0
-
We havea water cooler. We bought one of those 5 gallon bottles, fill it with filtered water for one dollar, we are set for a week or two.
Room temp or cold water, a touch of lime squirted into it does help. But I like water either way so I am good. Although I do not get my daily intake. That is changing today though. Hopefully I can keep track of it and get myself to meet the requirements.
it does make you pee a lot though lol0 -
I hate water too! I absolutely HATE it. It makes me feel sick to my stomach. The most I drink is 1-2 glasses a day. The rest comes from mixing water with juices, which taste too sweet to me anyway.0

Wal Mart makes a generic version of Crystal Light and I love it! My doctor says it counts as water so I am going with that! My favorite is Strawberry. My hubby likes the cherry and grape. they also make the ones that you just pour into your water bottle for when you are on the go alot. Each container has 6 little tubs in it and each tub makes two quarts. I drink two quarts of that a day and then water while at the gym (can't handle the sweet stuff while working out).0 -
I used to hate water myself until I found dasani bottled water. It's slightly expensive, but now it's all I drink so I don't waste money on soda or fake juices because it tastes so great!
Where I live the water is slightly hard (there are around 250 parts per million of random things in it). I tried leaving water out overnight, and it did help a little bit not having that chlorine taste to it, but the particles never leave it and that taste is awful to me.
I only drink bottled water now (which only has around 50 parts per million of random particles in it), and I love it. I also drink it at room temperature because I find it goes down quicker so I naturally drink more, and more is better in this case!
I would definately suggest trying higher quality bottled water if you've been drinking tap or a cheaper brand bottled water which lots of times still has around 200 ppm.
Also, sometimes people tend to drink water immediately after meals which causes discomfort in their stomach. This may lead to a subconscious disliking for water, so if this may be the case I would suggest drinking the majority of your daily intake of water before meals.
If this alone doesn't help, or if what other have already suggested doesn't either, you might want to try sweeteners along with higher quality (lower ppm and no chlorine) water!
Hope you can get your taste for water back!0 -
I hate water. It tastes like metal to me. From the sink or bottle, or wherever. So I chew mint gum or suck on a peppermint while I'm chugging.0

Holy cow. I remember when Wonderlust started this thread. It's almost a year old. I don't think she even gets on here anymore.
I don't like water either, big problem for me. I need to start drinking more.0 -

Herbal tea! It's especially good in the winter when it's cold. In the summer try making herbal sun tea!0

I love water! It's so refreshing, it tastes so clean. Drinking other stuff seems to leave a film on my teeth. I still drink tea or maybe once in awhile a diet pop but there is nothing like good water.
I hope you can all learn to like it.0
