Are dill pickles bad for my diet?

I am currently drinking Atkins Protein shakes for breakfast and dinner and eating a regular meal for lunch. After work in the evenings, I get a little hungry so I bought a big jar of pickles and have been eating half a pickle a day. I was wondering if this is actually hurting me? Any feedback would be great.

pickle juice always makes me feel good after a really heavy work out, but I guess it really depends on what it does for your sodium and if that is a concern for you. If it fits in with your diet plan (calories -wise) then I can't see any harm to it, but I am also no nutritionist.

    Good Health to you!

    Look at the label!!

If they are actually dill pickles, you are eating a cucumber with some vinegar and seasonings - pretty much allowed on any diet!

If it is any other kind of pickle, it may also have sugar added which would start messing with the chemistry involved in making the Atkins diet successful.

Pickles are very salty...so beware of water retention.

Yes! They are ridiculously high in sodium. I don't eat pickles anymore because sodium makes me retain so much water. They are yummy and low calorie, but the sodium isn't worth it.

wow thats a horrible way to lose weight
  • Ok thanks everyone. I didn't think of the sodium part. So I guess I will snack on them less frequently.
