I dream of running!

hi, I just found this ap yesterday and it seems like an awesome tool. A quick history...I went from in pretty good shape (120 pounds, 5' 5") ... lived in the city, so i walked everywhere...to breaking my leg in 2000. Have had a rod and pins ever since, went through physical therapy, but never fully recovered. Started slowly gaining weight and about a year later got married, went through rough marriage and even rougher divorce and 10 years after the break I find myself at 208 pounds!!! I'm an emotional eater, very sedentary after work and am stuck now. I feel really unhealthy and can't imagine being able to breathe or move with any more weight on my body. Dr has advised loosing weight of course and is ready to put me on cholesterol and blood pressure meds. Haven't gone there yet, but it's coming. I want to change but have no motivation right now. I dream of running a marathon some day, but at this point I'm on the couch. Would love any friends and any workout/accountability buddies around Plano Tx.

Hi
I just read your post - can i say you are not alone there are others out here just like you so welcome
first thing take your time
set some goals up
take some measurements
start by using the plan to keep an honest diary of your intake - do this for 2 weeks - you will amaze yourself by discovering just how far out your believed eating is to the reality of your consumption. I did this manually and my nutritionist pointed out I was eating over 3000 calories a day, no healthy excercise and yet I was telling her I was hungry as I dont eat very much.
I had to say I did not believe what I was hearing - yet deep down I think I realised she was correct - when she started guiding me I was 245lbs
My first target is 220
My goal wieght is 185
I felt like I was confronted with a 20feet high smooth wall and that I had to get my fat backside over it - no way the devil inside screamed have a cuppa and cookie - she's wrong I dont need to do that it said, let me say the devil is getting his *kitten* kicked hard
The first few weeks I learnt how to diarise my food, I learnt to read the food labels to see that sodium is not good for me, to lower the fat content and increase the dietary fibre content etc etc.
Then once that was understood I gradually learned which foods taste good ( this is important to a succesfull outcome ) and I started to reduce the portion sizes
Now im no expert here but in that time my self esteem started to grow and within I started to feel good, yes I have slipped see todays guilty post ! however overall I am a man on a plan
I have downloaded an app called c25k - its a running programme to get me exercising and I intersperse this with my walks
I purchsed a cross trainer from a hire company, I bought a commercial machine, new unused old stock, for the cost of a 12 week hire - find out where there warehouse/service centre is turn up there and ask a few questions trying to find out if there is a cheaper way long term and hey presto heres your new machine. I use this every time I feel a snack urge in the evenings - you will be amazed how addictive 5 mins can be !
I too dream of running - I used to handle 30 - 40 miles a week and now could not do 1 mile, i will get this back !
good luck - take your time and set the prize up
there are lots of us here to help you0 -
Thanks so much for your post! I appreciate your encouragement! Facing reality is a first step for sure. I'm excited that the ap will give me a wake up call on just how many calories I'm eating...sugar is a biggie. How much are you alternating running/walking?0

every day - I walk for at least 30 mins
3 times a week I am running using the "c25k" app on my phone to teach me timings ( your own personal trainer without the costs)
and I now choose stairs over lifts/elevators - walk the dog on top
man with a plan! thats my motto
good luck and add as a friend if you want to chat0 -
Thanks. I will check out the ap too. Have seen the plan online.0

You can do it! I'll add you as a friend. It takes so much energy to turn your life around and you are doing it! I dream of running as well and now it's a reality! Here are some tips for you to get started:
1. Start with some type of exercise. Anything will do. Walking and low impact videos will get you started.
2. Now that you're on this site, be diligent in writing down what you ate. Once you become friends with more people, look at their food diaries to get some good food choices.
3. Sign up for a 5K in your area! Goal - FINISH. This will give you a baseline of where your endurance is in terms of finishing the race.
I just completed my 1st 5K on April 16th at 46:55. I walked and ran (a little). At the time of the race, I was 276lbs. I'm set to run again on May 1st. For this one mile "fun run/walk", my goal is to jog most of the way. Then I'll sign up for another race in June, etc. I plan on being in six races this year. For each race, I'll be smaller and will jog longer.
You can do it! We're glad you're here!
Any runners, joggers or walkers out there? Feel free to friend me!0
