Not Stopping 'Til I Get It Right!

Good morning! Happy Easter!
I had a milestone b'day this year and though I lost about 40 lbs last year, I have put back
14 and still struggling. Part of the 14 can be accounted for because I quit smoking on
Jan 1st. However, I have been trying to lose it, and more, by counting calories and
exercising but I have only managed to gain.
I weighed myself this morning after 2 weeks of really trying to be agressive with calorie
counting and exercising - weighed 2 lbs more than 2 weeks ago. Felt like crying and
asking, "so ah, what's the point?" But you know what, don't have time for pity parties
and instead I found this website and here I am!
So, cyber friends.....please help me to stay committed. I am African American, 60 years
old with a husband that has exceeded the term morbidly obese while I'm close to being
considered morbidly obese. He has not shown any desire to lose weight, continues to
bring home cookies, chinese food, and submarine sandwiches - can you say, I'm being tested?????
But I am not going down like this and I truly am NOT STOPPING 'TIL I GET IT RIGHT!

Well done for quitting smoking, it's one of the best decisions you could have made for your health. I'm sorry to hear you are having a rough time but I'm glad you're determined to keep going.
Your Diary is closed so without a little more info on what you're eating and whether you're exercising it'll be hard to give any advice - could you give a little more info abut what you're currently doing?0 -

Welcome aboard. Nothing can tempt us unless we let it. You seem to know what you want and sound like your going to stick to it. Lets do it. Maybe your actions will enable your husbad in a good way to want to do the same. Today though you only have to focus on yourself. When people see you are doing something good for yourself sometimes they wanna bring your down. Just keep on stepping. Oh and the best thing!!! Congrats on stopping smoking! BRAVO to you. That is hard and you did it. Small goals add up in the journery of better health. Stopping smoking is a big success!!!0

First, let me congratulate you for your great effort last year to lose weight. Then, to quit smoking this year is a great stride toward acheiving a healthy lifestyle! I have never smoked but I know as a health care professional (Dental Hygienis), that smoking is both physically and mentally addictive.
I started my journey to lose weight to seek a healthier way of living about 7 years ago. I lost from 278 to 196lbs, using the Michael Thurmond Six Week Makeover. I was thrilled to feel healthier through exercise and healthier eating. But I, like you gained about 26lbs back over the last two years. I got married for the first time. He is a wonderful man. but much unlike your husband, he is very fit and can eat almost anything. I deal with wanting to eat with him like he eats, then started gaining.
Unfortunately, we cannot control the actions of our loved ones. Your husband is probably unconsciously trying to sabatoge your goals because it makes his actions seem weak. So sweet lady, live for yourself, pray for your hubby to see that what you are doing for yourself is what he needs to do. He has to want it for himself. So keep up the good work. We both will not stop til we get it right. I started with MFP 30 days ago. I have lost 7lbs so far. It is slow. I did not lose anything this week. But I will keep on going... You do the same! I know it's hard, but you can do it! What is your diary saying about the foods you are eating? That gives you a great indictor on how your weight is going to be. Also what type of exercising are you doing? If you are doing the types of exercise that builds muscle, you will see weight gain because muscle weighs more than fat. You are not along here and there is a lot of support! I've been up and down this road so much. You lost forty lbs before you can do it again. Stay true to logging in and ask questions and read other postings. You would be surprised at how many people are saying and asking the exact same questions. Good luck and Happy Easter!0

happy easter I feel your pain if your spouse isn't commited to help i.e.not bring home distractions you will have a tough time although by you starting I think he will see the new and healthy you and motivate himself to start his changes so be patient do not give up this site helps not only with monitoring cals and exercise but also with keeping up with your program when he brings home a distraction take a quick walk or something to take away temptation good luck and thanks for quitting smoking you will have saved more of your wonderful life to share with others by doing so0

You have your head in the right place girl! you already know what you DONT want...keep at it strong. I know how hard it is when your husband isn't trying to change with you. You can do it though...maybe use it as motivation to realize that you dont want to be stuck in that same rut not getting to the healthy point that you want to be. Good luck girl, dont give up!!!!!!0
