Not losing the lbs!

I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions on busting through a plateau? I'm on a low-carb/keto diet of around 1200 calories/day. I drink a ton of water and have been in steady ketosis (as shown by my ketostix) since I started going <50g carbs a day. I've read about intermittent 16/8 fasting, also about taking a 1-2 day break to jump start my metabolism, or even doing a carb-up day and getting back into keto right after....anyone try these with any success?? I've basically been hovering up and down 2-3lbs the last 3 weeks and its incredibly frustrating
I'll take any suggestions...please!

I'm going to just go ahead and state the obvious. What you're doing is not working for you, at least not in the short term. Are you seeing other benefits from the program you're following? I don't know enough about ketos to say one way or another what you should adjust, but 1200 calories is as low as you should go on a regular basis.
I was plateaud for a great deal longer than 3 weeks and while I benefitted in non-weightloss ways from that period of time, I wish I had gone to get the metabolic testing that ultimately pointed the way out for me a lot sooner than I did. If you have not had your RMR determined by testing yet, you might consider doing so.0 -

This intrigues me. How do you get this done? I've been plateauing for about a year. Sometimes my diet and exercise plan works. I lose. Then, out of the blue, it stops working and I gain.
As for the OP, I think you're a bit low on your net calories. You may have stalled your weight loss a tad by going so low. You might consider adding a couple hundred calories to your daily total for awhile, then aim for a net of 1200 everyday.
You're netting below 1200 consistently. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else. Doing some calorie-cycling or carb-cycling might help.
What's ketosis?0 -
dear god eat more than 1200 calories??0

Hello, Where did you get metabolic testing??
I, too, was trying to do 1200 cal lo-carb diet thinking that it worked for me. Then my weight just stopped. So, I have added carbs back into my diet and sticking with the 1200 cal and my weight started to drop again.... I think I finally realized that I can eat carbs and lose weight. It has taken me years to realize that carbs and not the enemy.... my eating habits were.0 -

I am no expert but it sounds like your body is going into starvation mode. When I first started my diet at the beginning of the month I wasnt taking in many calories each day, some days barely a thousand. My weight loss plateaued out and I didnt feel very good. The past week I took in more calories and worked out twice as hard to burn off the calories and it has sparked my metabolism. I really believe you can take in more calories daily if you spread them out throughout the day in small meals instead of three large sit down meals.0 -
Thank you!
I'm going to try upping my calories to 1400/day for a week, and eating my exercise calories also. I'm still going to try and maintain my carb intake at <30g/day as I do feel great cutting out sugars and carbs from my diet. The main benefit of eating low carb for me is getting my insulin response under control and not being carb-addicted as most people are. Hopefully increasing my calories will jump start my system and get the fat moving0 -
Eat more fat and some more protein to increase your calories....don't increase your carbs much. Starvation mode isn't applicable when your fats are high enough...that's the whole point of a ketosis diet.
I keep my carbs low (around 20) and fluctuate my calories...higher one day (1600ish) lower the next (1,000-1,200). I don't keep it steady, nor do I consider any exercise calories...I eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full.0
