Good rule of thumb I go by is the best foods are the ones that don't have long expiration dates. Non processed foods. Fresh fruits, veggies...ect.0

Get a bunch of leafy greens and salad ingredients. Also they have huge packs of boca burgers and low fat yogurt (light and fit has only 80 cal). Good luck!0

The same thing you would get at a regular grocery store.
Fresh Meat (variety of chicken, fish, beef and pork)
Fresh and Frozen veggies
Fresh and Frozen fruit
Nuts (best to stay away from peanuts as they are not a nut)
Plain, unsweetened yogurt0 -
Make sure you look in the baking aisle, not with the other nuts that are by the candy, to find the whole NATURAL almonds (ie the ones w/out anything added). Besides those... the only thing I would buy would be the produce and meat (fresh meat- not cold cuts or meats packaged in marinades or sauces)... last week they also had a box of the mandarin orange cups packed in 100% juice so those are a quick healthy snack...
I have a family of myself, my husband, and 5 kids so I buy the large amounts of perishables from Sam's b/c we eat it all before is spoils... hope your plan works for you!0 -
You can buy meats like chicken breast, 90/10 ground beef, tilapia or salmon in bulk, bag and freeze them later. I try to stay away from the packaged and frozen meats because they have more sodium and hidden cals, so read the labels. I always buy organic spring mix or baby spinach and romaine hearts. They usually sell low fat feta cheese. I buy my eggs, Chobani (greek yogurt) and fresh fruits from Sam's. They have some pretty good braeds there. I buy the Grant's Farm Stone Ground Bread, but they have another one that is a bit healthier. Also, I get nuts in bulk from there because they are way cheaper.
hope that helps..0 -
I may get slammed for saying this, but I will say it anyways- at costco/ sams club, protein bars are a must! They are a good snack or meal replacement for when you just cannot eat. they will carry you over, and prevent you from feeling famished and wanting to eat everything in sight. I also like to get a box of baked chips.0

Sam's has Zbars (in the aisle near the other protein bars, health food section). They actually are Kid Clif bars. They have all natural ingredients, no artificial sweeteners and are only 130 calories. Even though they are "kid" bars, I've found them to be a decent size and are quite satisfying. They come in a variety box with 3 different flavors. The chocolate brownie is especially good when you feel like you want a sweet treat. Also Sam"s has Chobani Greek Yogurt.. It is plain but when mixed with a tablespoon of honey and diced apple, it's a great treat!0

I buy pink lady apples there. If you haven't tried them, you should. Also my Sam's has a good price on 90/10 ground beef that has about the same amount of calories as ground turkey. But ground turkey's good, too, for a variety. Don't forget about fish, and a big pack of romaine for salads. Also look for fat free feta that's low in calories and so good on salads, sandwiches, and so many other things. And My Sam's Club has turkey sausage that looks good but I haven't tried it yet. Lot of choices!
Hope that helps.0 -
The same rules apply as a grocery store....stay to the outsides. About the only "isle" I go down is the frozen vegie, the non sauced steamers are great.0

I buy my frozen salmon there - it's individually frozen & wrapped and it's AMAZING. (It's not cheap, mind you, but it's worth every penny.) We sautee or grill the salmon and put that on top of a spinach salad with some feta cheese, strawberries (or craisens), some walnuts or almonds, and balsamaic vinegriette dressing.
I also buy frozen cod loin, big bags of spinach and/or lettuce, feta cheese, Laughing Cow cheese, and the last time, I bought a crate of huge Texas grapefruit that were awesome (my husband and I both love them and have a half grapefruit most mornings.)0
