Hi All,

I have had a cold for about 3-5 days now (while on vacation in the outer banks). It started with a severe sore throat and ear ache. Now it's in my throat and a little in my chest. I am coughing and have severe laryingitis and feel tired, with a bit of a headache that comes and goes. A tad weak, but functioning.

I know they say exercising is good to boost the immune system, but tonight is water aerobics and I am not sure if I should go or rest up?

Thoughts??

Rest up. I asked my doctor a similar thing a while back... You don't want to make it worse. Maybe in a day or two, just ease into lifting weights for a bit and then get back onto routine. I know it sucks when you're on a roll, but you don't want to hurt yourself. If you're truly in doubt, just give your doc a call as he/she knows your situation way better.

I really hope you feel better!!!! Get well soon and when you're ready, kick some boo-tay at the gym/pool/whereever! :-)

I have always heard that if the cold/illness is above your shoulders (that is, hasn't settled into your chest) then light cardio exercise is fine.

If you have a chest cold then it's best to wait a few days til you're feeling stronger.

If you're tired, then play it by ear. Don't do too much at once and then knock yourself out of commission for even longer than what it would have been had you waited.

I take the time I would have exercised to rest, because when I'm sick I get cranky! And going to the gym while cranky and snotty is no fun! Then when I jump back into working out my body feels much better and the break kind of restarts my weight loss!

I have the same or similar thing going on, maybe a tad worse. In fact, posed a similar question yesterday in this thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/225005-exercise-and-the-flu The overwhelming consensus is to take it easy until the thing passes. A visit to my doctor today also confirmed that approach.

Rest up and hope you feel better fast!

I say take it easy! I have been fighting the same thing. Today is the day I finally feel good - 14 days and 2 antibiotics later!! It's definitely a doozy and will kick your butt so just sit back and relax :flowerforyou:
