I was just googling starvation mode and what it really means and how it works and I came across this.. I don't really know what I believe about all of it because there are so many ideas so I'm in no way trying to sway anybody to believe one thing or another but I thought it was a pretty interesting piece.

Interesting take.....it doesn't take into account the plateaus that so many of us face when we start to approach that 1200 point......not saying it's wrong....I'm all for healthy discussions on the topic0

I think it's interesting that 1200 is for everyone. I definately believe i need at least 1200 because I have seen my body go into a starvation mode before. I lost weight at first but then gained a bunch. I also had NO ENERGY.
I however don't believe all people need at least 1200 cals. some may need at least 1000. others may need at least 1400. The trick is to give your body what it NEEDS but maybe not exactly what it wants. treat your body like a responsible adult but not like a spoiled child.0 -
I've always thought starvation mode was when your metabolism slowed down b/c it thought you might be starving. Basically, you don't want to cut your calories so much that it slows down your metabolism. As soon as you go back to eating more calories, you'll gain weight because your body has gotten used to existing on fewer.0

Thanks for the article. Many people believe this and of course when you start something new like a diet program or starvation, your going to loose weight...at first. The body is doing something different, then it all will slow down. Been there done that in high school and it affected my yo yo dieting as an adult even more. I aske myself, what do I want more, healthy, managable weight that may take time to get to or "quick fix" that tends to make the weight fluctuate (my weight at least) and be at battle with weight loss the rest of my life.0

Thanks for the article!! I am a type 1 diabetic and several months ago, after much dieting and losing nothing, I asked my endocrinologist if he could recommend anything to help me lose weight. I brought up the whole 1200 calorie thing and he told me that everyone is different. You have to continue to decrease your daily calories until you start to see results. He told me of a patient he had had that had to go down to 900 calories a day to lose the weight. I was blown away by this at first (and at the time was very broken hearted because I thought I was hungry all the time with 1200 calories much less dropping any more). I beleive as long as you are getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs and the calories your body needs to function, you have to do what is right for you! Again thanks for the article!!!0
