Yesterday, I sucked down a gallon and a quart of water. Half a gallon of it was plain water, the rest I dillute 50% with Propel. (And I drank about 20 oz. during the night)
Today, I got up and have already guzzled a half gallon, and I am still thirsty. I can't drink anymore, because my stomach is so full my pants feel tight! But I want to drink more!
My sodium was under 2500 the last few days, so it's not that... Just really really thirsty!

It's okay to drink alot of water, but be careful of drinking too much. Drinking over a gallon in under an hour could lead to water poisoning. So be careful not to over do it.
Try eating some juicy fruit. that might help.0 -
Add a fresh lemon or lime wedge to your water...something about the acid in them helps quench thirst...sometimes I just suck on a lime wedge....0

I've never heard of water poisoning before...I know it sounds silly, but what is doing the poisoning? Sorry, I'm just curious!0 -
I normally get a gallon in a day... I just don't know what's going on today... Am at work, so no juicy fruit or citrus. I've got blueberries packed to go with my yogurt for a snack...
It's not a gallon in under an hour... It was only a half gallon, and it took me two hours:laugh:0 -

Your body just can't handle that much of anything that fast. It can't deal with it, and you get nauseated and get the shakes... I'm not sure what else, but it can be bad. When I worked in a store, a couple of the guys took a bet that they could drink a gallon of chocolate milk in an hour... They were puking the rest of the day...0 -
I think the Lime and Lemon wedge idea is a good one - same with the gum. You could also try sugar free hard candy.
Do you think you may be fighting a cold? I've been really dry feeling past couple days even with drinking my water but I am refusing to admit I have a cold!!0 -
Nope, no cold. I feel fine, just really really thirst. I'm almost done with my 3rd liter bottle. Trying really hard not to just guzzle it!0

A radio station in WA had a contest to see who could drink the most water...and a contestant died. They're body could not process the water fast enough. I'm sure it's "over kill" on some internal organs.
I am very sure it's not a common occurance...plus...you'd have to drink it quickly. Most of us drink that much throughout the day, not in an hour.0 -
Maybe try sipping on some green tea or something hot. You won't drink it as fast and it's good for you.
If you feel constantly thirsty for more than a few days you might call you doctor and make sure nothing weird is going on. Good luck!0 -
Water poisoning as I understand it has to do with drinking so much water that it disrupts the balance of electrolytes and salts between inside and outside cell walls throughout the body. This balance is crucial for the functions of all cells.
Remember osmosis??!!!
Man that was a long time ago0 -
I notice when I drink water I actually think my mouth gets drier. Am I wierd (thats a loaded ?)
:ohwell:0 -
Excessive thirst may be an indication of hyperglycemia, or high blood pressure, among other things.
It may be privy of you to talk to your doctor especially if the condition worsens.0 -

:ohwell:
Yes.......you are wierd0 -
Your thirst may be a sign of something more serious or could be because of a medication, have you checked with a doctor?I notice when I drink water I actually think my mouth gets drier. Am I weird (that's a loaded ?)
That used to happen to me, it was because of a medication I was talking - it made my mouth dry no matter how much water I drank :frown:0 -
Nope, no meds. Am somewhat concerned, still thirsty, have had over a gallon and a half today. Just swigged down a half of a liter bottle, and still... thirsty....
I never want to be stranded in a desert, I can just imagine how thirsty I would be!0 -
Day 2, and I've only been up 6 hours, and I've got almost a gallon in. I finished almost 2 gallons yesterday! I did call the doctor, and have an appt for this afternoon, since I now also have a weird taste in my mouth and am getting lightheaded off an on, sitting down.
When I called, and said I would like an appt, the receptionist asked the reason why. I told her it would probably sound weird, and she snorted and said I'd be suprised, and that it probably wasn't that weird. So I told her, and first thing she asked is if I'd ever been tested for diabetes. I have, back when I was preggers oh how many years ago... Since then I've had my sugar levels tested a couple of times, but they were always normal.
So... who knows.0 -
Let us know how it goes--my first symptoms of Diabetes was constant thirst and weight loss (dropped 15 pounds even though I was eating everything in sight).0
-
My sugar level in the office was 101, which I guess is in the normal range. He's cut me off the water. On a normal day, I drink 3 to 4 liters. He's told me to drink no more than 2.
He's ordered a full blood workup, thyroid test, urine tests, some osmotic test, and tomorrow morning I need to go in and get a fasting glucose test. And he wants me back to see him on Monday. Evidently, it could be serious, because he's told me that if I feel lightheaded again, to go to the ER right away. Not to the doctor's office, not to the walk-in clinic, but to the ER. I guess even though I'm not drinking it fast, I could develop water poisoning because of the amounts and the time frame.0 -
Bunny--
I'll be praying for you-- so glad you called right away--
God bless you-- please let us know.0
