slave to the scale

I get on the scale on average 5-10 times a day.... it's so bad! I KNOW in my brain that fluctuations happen throughout the day, but I'll still weigh myself in the morning, after I eat, after I use the bathroom, when I get home, and a few times at night. Seeing that number jump around messed with my mood, and I am sick of it, but it's a habit that's so hard to break.
So this is my public declaration that I am only getting on the scale ONCE per day, in the morning, and that's it!!

Good goal....when you adjust to the once a day then gradually work to only once a week. Much less discouraging.0

put your scale in the closet, or a drawer, where you have to actually get it out. See if that helps.0

i do it once a day and even that drives me crazy. I too am declaring to only weigh in on Mondays ! :drinker:0

That is a great plan I am also a slave to the scale :-( Everytime I work out which is 4-5 20 min session per day I hop back on it! I also get mad when it goes up even though I know it's normal fluctuations. I am going to try to just do it once per day as well!0

Remember its not what it says on the scales, but what it says in the mirror0

I am a slave as well! I will try yo do what you are doing once a day! Good luck to us!0

I used to weigh every day and it can really ruin your mood if it's not showing what you want it to. Day to day can fluctuate (sp?)depending on water retainage and lots of other things. I've gotten to the point that I weigh every Monday morning- it's so tempting to do it more often but like what another has already said, I get the scale out of sight to make it a little harder to get to.
Best of luck!0 -

I wasn't a slave per se, but I did let what the numbers dictate to me how I "felt" that day. Well a fellow mfp talked me into giving up the scale for Lent. The first few days were the hardest especially when Sunday (my weigh in day) rolled around. Then I started noticing how much more energy I had, how great I looked in my clothes, what areas were really toning up. I tell you it's probably one of the best things I've done for myself since January. Then when Easter got here I debated about did I really need that validation. Happily I am down 8.2 lbs, but even if I stayed the same I know I'm making progress. Know that you can break any habit, you just have to put forth the effort and know that the long term reward is better than instant gratification.0

I was doing the same thing as you! I'd hop on the scale practically every time I walked by it, and get mad that the number wasn't consistently going down. LOL! I'm on the 1/2 lb. a week weight loss plan, so really I *shouldn't* see fast changes, but somehow I'm still angry that I've *only* lost 8 pounds in two weeks. I'm such a dummy!
My husband noticed what I was doing, and he actually CONFISCATED my scale and hid it somewhere. He told me I can every it every other Wednesday morning for my official weigh-in. haha
Annoying... but I know it's for my own good!0 -
Exactly why I don't own one. I get on it once a week at the gym, even though I want to more. Heck I'm there almost everyday. Not really sure what the scale is telling me anyway. It's really just a snapshot in time. Good luck with once a day, maybe you can get to once every other day, then once a week.0

I step on at least 5 times a day. HOWEVER, I don't let the number scare me. I only really pay attention to the results on M-W-F mornings.0

I do the same thing...not throughout the day, tho...but several times in the morning...As if by peeing I will drop that number considerably. Nope... not enough to make a difference.
I think Monday mornings (or even Sunday, since I don't really work out on Sundays) ONCE weekly would be a good thing.
The hardest thing for me is that the numbers don't matter as much if the clothes are getting bigger.0 -
Put my scale under my shoe rack for now, good suggestion. Also "Remember its not what it says on the scales, but what it says in the mirror" .. I need to keep reminding myself of that
I'll check back in with all of you later this week and let you know how quitting the scale is going! I need you guys to keep me accountable0 -
Made it the whole day yesterday without weighing!!! But got on the scale this morning and it read 149 lbs, 0.8 more than yesterday. I know I shouldn't get discouraged, but I am
Hopefully tomorrow's number is better.
And I am eventually going to try to get down to weighing only once a week, but I have to get there slowly... baby steps.0
