Need support not re: weight

I turned my cell phone off yesterday and forgot to turn it back on till this morning and there was a voicemail. I had a mammogram done last Friday and got a call that they want me to go back in tomorrow to do more "views". I am absolutely petrified and just want to cry. Because I have issues with my blood pressure and have had valve replacement heart surgery I'm trying to stay calm but am very upset.
When my day started this morning I was happy with myself because I was getting ready to go back to my exercise group....then I saw the voicemail and called the breast center and now have an appointment to return tomorrow. I went to the exercise class because I knew I needed the support and to take my mind off of this which really helped but of course I can't stop thinking about it. My mom had breast cancer at age 54 and passed away. Of course, nowadays things are much more advanced I keep telling myself.
Please give me some encouragement. I'm so happy that I can come to all of you and be open about this.

Try to be positive even though you are understandably scared. More views does not necessarily mean cancer. Prayers headed your way0

This happened to me on my very first mammogram - they called and wanted me to come back for more films. They had me wait on the second visit, and before I left they were able to tell me that everything was fine.
It's hard not to stress about it, but hang in there and good luck!0 -
I think nowadays things are much more advanced, just like you said, and you've probably detected any problems early enough--if there are any at all. They probably saw something small and just wanted to make sure it wasn't serious. And even if it is we've improved so much in technology I think the statistics are more in your favor than they would have been back when your mom passed away. I'm sorry you had to lose her that way...
Anyways, a positive attitude and determination can overcome most obstacles. You're strong enough to deal with this either way because you're strong enough to deal with something most Americans are terrified of (doing something about their weight). I'll pray for you and hope for all the best when you go in tomorrow.0 -
I am sorry for your situation. You know that we are here for you if you need us. Someone who I call mom had a breast cancer about 10 years ago, so it does strike home for me. Keep us updated on your progress. I will keep you in my prayers!!!0

Just relax....Stressing isn't going to help. Take things one day at a time and trust God with the things outside of your control. My mom has uterine tumors and we can't afford the surgery so I understand your concern medically speaking. But ultimately God is always in control. Be happy today! And deal with tomorrow when it gets here!!!
Love and Prayers all for you!

I know how getting the call for further tests is scary. Without the knowledge of really knowing what is going on, we tend to always look for the worst in any given situation. Even though you have to go back, it doesn't mean the worse case possible. What if the imaging center missplaced or the views didn't come out clear enough... Hang in there. I know it's hard. I have been in your shoes with female issues and thinking the worse when you get that call.
Good luck tomorrow and everything is going to be ok!!0 -
Hang in there! There are lots of things on those scans that can be "questionable" to the doctor reading the scan. More views just helps clear the cobwebs and the uncertainties. Majority of re-checks turn out to be nothing.
If it IS something to worry about, it at best, is questionable at this point, so that means probably catching it pretty early.
My mother in law (age 60) had a tiny (size of grain of sand) questionable place, they decided to do a lumpectomy and it WAS a carcinoma (breast cancer) - however because of such early detection she was completely cured with just the lumpectomy (still did some radiation afterwards as an extra precaution - but she got through it just fine!
Whatever comes your way, take it a day at a time, don't be afraid (the Lord tells us so many, many times not to be afraid), ask questions for what you don't understand and keep your chin up!
Let us know how the re-check goes (if you'd like)....0 -
I've been called back more than once and there was nothing there either time. Sometimes its the technician, sometimes its just a shadow, womens breasts are very fibrous- so don't stress out. Don't wear any powder, cream, deordorant etc - keep us posted. we care.0

That happened to me on my first and second mamos.
Don't worry until there is something to worry about, because worry is like a rocking chair, you rock and rock and rock but you never get anywhere.0 -
I know it's hard to deal with the news, but it could mean they just didn't get a clear picture. If God takes you to it, he can surely take you through it. Try not to let this worry you too badly. Try to focus on something positive until its over.0

My Mama always said "Don't borrow trouble" I'm sure it could be a number of things, I do understand your worries tho after what happened to your Mom. My Mom had breast cancer also but she beat it!! Put it in God's hands hon, take care!0

I completely understand what you are going through, as I am a worrier when it comes to health related things. Part of mine comes from me working in a hospital, so I always assume the worst. Try to stay positive, and like the last poster said, many times they just need to be seen from different angles. My mother has had to go back for a "second look" after her last 3 mammograms due to some fatty lumps that are in her breasts. They appear on a regular mammogram as a questionable lump, but then when they do a more in depth scan, it turns out to be nothing. Everything will work out for you, and you will be in my prayers.0

First, let me just say that you actually seem to be handling the situation well. I know it is scary. My Aunt passed from breast cancer a few years back and it was a devestating loss as well as going through all of the treatments. BUT, my Aubnt also defied ALL the odds. When she was first diagnosed, she was already Stage 4 Breast Cancer. They gave her less than 4 months to live. One year later and many chemo/radiation treatments and she was in remission. Against all odds. Every doctor was stunned and called her a miracle. It wasn't until another year later that the cancer returned and she refused treatment. Said that she knew this was it. "The lord gave me an extra one and a half years and I am grateful, but I will not go through the chemo and radiation again. I will enjoy my last times on earth with my hair on my head and my food in my stomach. I will keep my quality of life." -My Aunt...The doctors said she wouldn't make in 2 months without the therapy and treatments as the cancer came back more aggressive. 10 months later, she passed...happily. Family at her side and she said she never felt better.
It is scary, but as you can see, there are no expiration dates. Fighting is our option. Proving people wrong is our drive. I can't tell you everything will be alright. I can tell you that as long as you do not let it get the best of you, you will be fine. Be humble. Keep your loved ones near you at all times. No one gets out alive anyway. I will say that I hope everything is fine and wish you all the best.0 -
I know that it's scary, but they are probably just getting more film to be safe. Chances are, it's nothing to worry about. If (heaven forbid) it does turn out to be something, it sounds like you are in a strong position to fight it. You're getting regular mammograms, so they would be able to catch it early, and amazing medical advances have been made in treating breast cancer. A dear friend of mine was diagnosed a couple of years ago and is now in complete remission and back to her old self. It's easy to imagine the worst - just stay strong & don't let your fears run away with you!
I will be keeping you in my thoughts!0 -
I agree with the rest of the posters. Although it's hard not to worry, chances are it is more than likely a shadow or a technical error. As you can see, alot of other women have had the same phone call.
When I was 21, I found a lump in my breast. They did a biopsy and it was a benign fibroid tumor, . It came back 6 months later and I didn't even worry about it. It went away when my daughter was born, in 1999. I was 37. Stress will kill ya faster than cancer will. Good luck and I'm sending positive thoughts your way!!0 -
You will definitely be in my prayers. Thankfully, medical advances are in your favor. I'd rather have a recheck and catch it earlier than to assume it was nothing. Keep us posted as to how to pray and I agree with the last post, If God takes you to it, He will take you through it! God bless!0

im so sorry. im lost for words and im not sure what to day. im here to support you, but im sure everything will work out just fine. think positive!! )
my prayers are with you.0 -
My mom's also had to come in for a second view but everything was ok...I'm sure your will be the same.0

As many have already said, take it one day at a time. There could be many reasons they need more pictures and most of them are not that big of a deal. I recently (just last week) had a friend who had her second lumpectomy because the doctor found something on her mammogram. Both times the growths have turned out to be benign. They're so much better at catching things these days.
I'll keep you in my prayers. Wishing you all the support you need during this difficult time.0 -
First off, hugs to you. Secondly, the same thing happened to my mom. She had to go back in and it ended up being nothing. There was just an irregularity that they wanted to double check and they actually made her go in for a mammogram every 6 months for the next 2 years just to make sure everything was ok. But it all worked out in the end. It could be absolutely nothing. So chin up! :flowerforyou:0

9 out of 10 of the call backs for more tests are nothing to be concerned about. You'll be fine!0

I love all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've really helped with easing my mind. All your posts brought a lot of tears to my eyes to know how many people care. I am a strong believer in God.....that's who helped me through the heart surgery so thank you everyone for your prayers. I have a wonderful daughter who lives close to me and we are very close and spend a lot of time together. My son who lives a distance away is also terrific.
Just to lighten things a little......although I'm 65 years old (Thursday)....I want my mommy right now.0 -

Hi,
I was in your shoes last fall. My yearly mammo had shown a "suspicious spot," so I had to go back for a more focused mammogram about a week later. I was a wreck, but I am happy to say that everything turned out fine.
I had a follow-up mammo in February, and everything continues to look good. The nurse who called (who is also a personal friend) tried to reassure me by telling me that they have "lots" of ladies who have to have more focused tests, and "most" of them turn out just fine.
I'll say some extra prayers for you......for nothing to show up on the extra views, and for peace of mind for you.
